Development of the Safety System for the Inner Tracking System of the ALICE Experiment
/ Blanc, Pascal Herve (CERN) ; Mendez Lorenzo, Patricia (CERN) ; Pons, Xavier (CERN)
/ALICE ITS Collaboration
During the LHC Long Shutdown 2, the ALICE experiment has undergone numerous upgrades to cope with the large amount of data expected. Among all new elements integrated into ALICE, the experiment counts with a new Inner Tracking System (ITS), with innovative pixel sensors that will substantially improve the performance of the system. The first disk-based custodial storage for the ALICE experiment
/ Un Ahn, Sang (KISTI, Daejeon) ; Kim, Jeongheon (KISTI, Daejeon) ; Han, Heejune (KISTI, Daejeon) ; Lee, Seung Hee (KISTI, Daejeon) ; Yoon, Heejun (KISTI, Daejeon)
We proposed a disk-based custodial storage as an alternative to tape for the ALICE experiment at CERN to preserve its raw data. The proposed storage system relies on Redundant Array of Independent Nodes (RAIN) layout – the implementation of erasure coding in the EOS storage suite, which is developed by CERN – for data protection and takes full advantage of high-density Just-Bunch-Of-Disks (JBOD) enclosures to maximize storage capacity as well as to achieve cost-effectiveness comparable to tape. Heavy Ions in 2018
/ Schaumann, M (CERN) ; Jowett, J M (CERN)
The last month of operation in 2018 will be devoted to lead-lead (Pb-Pb)
physics, while no protons will be available from the injectors. In the history
of the LHC this is only the 4th Pb-Pb run, but the initial 10 years LHC design
goal of 1 nb $^{-1}$ of Pb-Pb luminosity in ALICE, ATLAS and CMS is already in reach.
At this early stage, studies and discussions are still going on and it is not
yet possible to decide all details of the run configuration. [...]

Jet substructure in pp collisions with ALICE
/ Lesser, Ezra (UC, Berkeley)
Jet substructure observables have been used by experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) as instruments to search for new physics as well as to study perturbative and nonperturbative processes in quantum chromodynamics (QCD). [...]

A Large Ion Collider Experiment(ALICE) at the Large Hadron Collider(LHC) at CERN will undergo a major upgrade during the 2nd LHC Long Shutdown(LS2) scheduled in 2019~2021 that will allow to study in detail of strong interaction matter Quark-Gluon Plasma(QGP) properties. To collecting more Pb-Pb events during the Run 3 and Run 4, the replacement of the existing Inner Tracking System(ITS) with a completely new ultra-light high resolution detector based on Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors(MAPS) technique is one of the cornerstones within this upgrade program.
