Recent results on (anti-)(hyper-)nuclei production in pp, p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions with ALICE / Trogolo, Stefano (INFN, Turin ; Turin U.) /ALICE
The ALICE Collaboration has collected a large data sample of Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}$ = 5.02 TeV in 2015 at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), which is complementary to that at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}$ = 2.76 TeV from Run 1. In these collisions, a great variety of (anti-)(hyper-)nuclei is produced, namely deuteron, triton, $^3$He, $^4$He, hypertriton ($^3_{\Lambda}$H) and their antiparticles. [...]

Open heavy-flavour production in p-Pb collisions measured with ALICE at the LHC / Terrevoli, Cristina (INFN, Padua ; Padua U.) /ALICE
Heavy flavours are sensitive probes of the hot and dense quark-gluon plasma formed in high-energy nucleus-nucleus collisions. Strangeness production in Pb-Pb collisions with ALICE at the LHC / Kalinak, Peter (Kosice, IEF) /ALICE
We present new ALICE results on the production of strange and multi-strange hadrons in Pb--Pb collisions at the top LHC energy of $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV.Strangeness production measurements are powerful tools for the study of the thermal properties of the deconfined state of QCD matter, the Quark-Gluon Plasma.Thanks to its unique tracking and PID capabilities, ALICE is able to measure weakly decaying particles through the topological reconstruction of the identified hadron decay products.Transverse momentum spectra of $\mathrm{K}^{0}_{S}$, $\Lambda$, $\Xi$ and $\Omega$ at central rapidity are presented as function of the collision centrality.The so-called baryon anomaly in the ratio $\Lambda$/$\mathrm{K}^{0}_{S}$ is examined to probe particle production mechanisms: the position of the peak is sensitive to recombination proces ses, the high-$p_{\rm T}$ part can provide revealing insights on fragmentation and, finally, the steepness of the rising trend featuring for $p_{\rm T} \lesssim$ 2 GeV/$c$ can be connected to the hydrodynamic expansion of the system.In order to study strangeness enhancement, hyperon yields are normalised to the measurements of pion production in the corresponding centrality classes.Comparisons to lower energy results as well as to different collision systems will be shown. This offers a complete experimental picture that is used as a benchmark for commonly adopted phenomenological models, such as the thermal statistical hadronisation approach..

The ALICE ITS upgrade / Camerini, Paolo (INFN, Trieste ; Trieste U.) /ALICE
A major upgrade of the Inner Tracking System (ITS) of the ALICE experiment at LHC is currently under preparation with the aim of exploiting the increased Pb-Pb luminosity expected during Run 3 and Run 4 after 2020, which will enable to make a detailed study of the properties of the Quark-Gluon Plasma. The new ITS, which will be installed during the Long Shutdown 2 (2019-2020), will increase the readout rate capability by more than two orders of magnitude while, at the same time, improving the tracking capability and the impact parameter resolution, especially at low transverse momentum.The new ultra-light tracker will be constructed with Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors to instrument the ~10 m2 ITS active surface, arranged on seven layers, with the inner layer as close as 23 mm from the interaction point.The CMOS chip (ALPIDE) which will equip the ITS is built in the TowerJazz 180 nm -CMOS imaging sensor process and has been custom designed to fulfil the stringent requirements of the new tracker.The chip R&D; phase finished in 2016 with the development of a chip whose performances fulfil and often exceed the project requirements.
