A Stochastic Approach in Uncertainty Budgeting for Accelerator Pre-Alignment–Study for The Clic Project / Doytchinov, Iordan Petrov (CERN)
A new strategy for uncertainty budgeting estimation following the International Standard (GUM - Supplement 1) is proposed as alternative to current classical methods of error budgeting applied in the domain of accelerator components. This strategy applies stochastic modelling on the uncertainty contributing factors for providing probability density function as quantification of pre-alignment measurements uncertainty. [...]

The luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) requires the development of a new generation of superconducting magnets based on Nb3Sn technology. In order to monitor the magnet thermo-mechanical behaviour during its service life, from the coil fabrication to the magnet operation, reliable sensing systems need to be implemented. [...]

This contribution presents distributed and multi-point fiber-optic monitoring of cryogenic temperatures along a superconducting power transmission line down to 30 K and over 20 m distance. Multi-point measurements were conducted using fiber Bragg gratings sensors coated with two different functional overlays (epoxy and PMMA) demonstrating cryogenic operation in the range 300 – 4.2 K. Analysis of the quench propagation along Nb3Sn Rutherford cables with the THELMA code. Part I: geometric and thermal models / Manfreda, G. (Udine U.) ; Bellina F. (Udine U.)
The paper describes the new lumped thermal model recently implemented in THELMA code for the coupled electromagnetic–thermal analysis of superconducting cables. A new geometrical model is also presented, which describes the Rutherford cables used for the accelerator magnets. [...]
