The on-line low temperature nuclear orientation facility NICOLE / Ohtsubo, T (Niigata U.) ; Roccia, S (CSNSM, Orsay) ; Stone, N J (Tennessee U. ; Oxford U.) ; Stone, J R (Tennessee U. ; Oxford U.) ; Gaulard, C (CSNSM, Orsay) ; Köster, U (Laue-Langevin Inst.) ; Nikolov, J (Novi Sad U.) ; Simpson, G S (LPSC, Grenoble) ; Veskovic, M (Novi Sad U.)
We review major experiments and results obtained by the on-line low temperature nuclear orientation method at the NICOLE facility at ISOLDE, CERN since the year 2000 and highlight their general physical impact. This versatile facility, providing a large degree of controlled nuclear polarization, was used for a long-standing study of magnetic moments at shell closures in the region Z = 28, N = 28–50 but also for dedicated studies in the deformed region around A ∼ 180. The solid state physics programme at ISOLDE: recent developments and perspectives / Johnston, Karl (CERN) ; Schell, Juliana (CERN ; Duisburg-Essen U.) ; Correia, J G (CERN ; IST/ITN, Lisbon) ; Deicher, M (Hamburg U.) ; Gunnlaugsson, H P (Iceland U.) ; Fenta, A S (CERN ; Aveiro U. ; Leuven U.) ; David-Bosne, E (CERN ; IST/ITN, Lisbon) ; Costa, A R G (CERN ; IST/ITN, Lisbon) ; Lupascu, Doru C (Duisburg-Essen U.)
Solid state physics (SSP) research at ISOLDE has been running since the mid-1970s and accounts for about 10%–15% of the overall physics programme. ISOLDE is the world flagship for the on-line production of exotic radioactive isotopes, with high yields, high elemental selectivity and isotopic purity. [...]

Atomic-scale study of the amorphous-to-crystalline phase transition mechanism in GeTe thin films / IS578 Collaboration
The underlying mechanism driving the structural amorphous-to-crystalline transition in Group VI chalcogenides is still a matter of debate even in the simplest GeTe system. We exploit the extreme sensitivity of 57Fe emission Mössbauer spectroscopy, following dilute implantation of 57Mn (T½ = 1.5 min) at ISOLDE/CERN, to study the electronic charge distribution in the immediate vicinity  of the 57Fe probe substituting Ge (FeGe), and to interrogate the local environment of FeGe over the amorphous-crystalline phase transition in GeTe thin films. Our results show that the local structure  of as-sputtered amorphous GeTe is a combination of tetrahedral and defect-octahedral sites. Lattice location of implanted transition metals in 3C–SiC / Granadeiro Costa, Angelo Rafael (Universidade de Lisboa (PT)) ; Wahl, Ulrich (Universidade de Lisboa (PT)) ; Martins Correia, Joao (Universidade de Lisboa (PT)) ; David Bosne, Eric (Universidade de Lisboa (PT)) ; Amorim, Lígia (KU Leuven (BE)) ; Silva, Daniel (Universidade do Porto (PT)) ; Castro Ribeiro Da Silva, Manuel (Universidade de Lisboa (PT)) ; Bharuth-Ram, Krishanlal (University of Kwazulu - Natal (ZA)) ; Da Costa Pereira, Lino Miguel (KU Leuven (BE)) /EC-SLI Collaboration
We have investigated the lattice location of implanted transition metal (TM) 56Mn, 59Fe and 65Ni ions in undoped single-crystalline cubic 3C–SiC by means of the emission channeling technique using radioactive isotopes produced at the CERN-ISOLDE facility. We find that in the room temperature as-implanted state, most Mn, Fe and Ni atoms occupy carbon-coordinated tetrahedral interstitial sites (TC). [...]

This paper presents an overview of the REX-ISOLDE post-accelerator and a detailed description of the high intensity and energy ISOLDE (HIE-ISOLDE) energy upgrade. The status of the HIE-ISOLDE post-accelerator and its performance, including time structure, beam spot size, beam purity, etc. [...]

Evolution of nuclear structure in neutron-rich odd-Zn isotopes and isomers / Wraith, C (Liverpool U.) ; Yang, X F (Leuven U.) ; Xie, L (Manchester U.) ; Babcock, C (Liverpool U.) ; Bieroń, J (Jagiellonian U.) ; Billowes, J (Manchester U.) ; Bissell, M L (Leuven U. ; Manchester U.) ; Blaum, K (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst.) ; Cheal, B (Liverpool U.) ; Filippin, L (Brussels U. ; Louvain U., CP3) et al.
Collinear laser spectroscopy was performed on Zn ( Z=30 ) isotopes at ISOLDE, CERN. The study of hyperfine spectra of nuclei across the Zn isotopic chain, N=33–49 , allowed the measurement of nuclear spins for the ground and isomeric states in odd- A neutron-rich nuclei up to N=50 . [...]

ISOLDE at CERN / Borge, Maria (CERN) ; Kadi, Yacine (CERN)
ISOLDE's story begins in 1967, when the first on-line production of radioactive nuclei for experiments took place in a newly provisional way. Almost half a century later, ISOLDE is the oldest experiment still in operation at CERN, and for good reasons: it occupies a leading position in the field of nuclear research, having produced nearly 1300 nuclei of more than 70 elements [1].
