Sensitivity of $^{57}$Fe emission Mössbauer spectroscopy to Ar and C induced defects in ZnO / Bharuth-Ram, K (DUT, Durban) ; Mølholt, T E (CERN) ; Langouche, G (Leuven U.) ; Geburt, S (U. Emission Mössbauer Spectroscopy (eMS) measurements, following low fluence (<1012 cm−2) implantation of 57Mn (t 1/2 = 1.5 min.) into ZnO single crystals pre-implanted with Ar and C ions, has been utilized to test the sensitivity of the 57Fe eMS technique to the different types of defects generated by the different ion species. The dominant feature of the Mössbauer spectrum of the Ar implanted ZnO sample was a magnetic hyperfine field distribution component, attributed to paramagnetic Fe3+, while that of the C implanted sample was a doublet attributed to substitutional Fe2+ forming a complex with the C dopant ions in the 2− state at O vacancies. We present a study of TiO$_2$ single crystals from the point of view of the dopant atom that simultaneously behaves as the probing element. We used gamma-gamma time dependent perturbed angular correlations working with selected tracer elements ($^{111}$In/ $^{111}$Cd, $^{111m}$Cd/ $^{111}$Cd) together to investigate the different behavior of Cd and In dopants, particularly their interaction with point defects in the TiO$_2$ lattice. $^57$Fe emission Mössbauer spectroscopy has been applied to study the lattice location and properties of Fe in gadolinium gallium garnet $Gd_3 Ga_5 O_{12}$ (GGG) single crystals in the temperature interval 300 – 563 K within the extremely dilute (<10$^{−4}$ at.%) regime following the implantation of$^{57}$Mn (T$_{1 / 2}$= 1.5 min.) at ISOLDE/CERN. These results are compared with earlier Mössbauer spectroscopy study of Fe-doped gadolinium gallium garnet $Gd_3 Ga_5 O_{12}$(GGG), with implantation fluences between 8×10$^{15}$ and 6×10$^{16}$ atoms cm $^{−2}$. Emission Mössbauer spectroscopy has been utilised to characterize dilute $^57$Fe impurities in In $_2O_3$ following implantation of $^57$Mn ($T_{1/2}$ = 1.5 min.) at the ISOLDE facility at CERN. Emission Mössbauer Spectroscopy following the implantation of radioactive precursor isotope $^{57}$Mn$^{+}$ (T$_{1/2}$= 1.5 min) into ZnO single crystals at ISOLDE/CERN shows that a large fraction of $^{57}$Fe atoms produced in the $^{57}$Mn beta decay is created as paramagnetic Fe$^{3+}$ with relatively long spin-lattice relaxation times. Here we report on ZnO pre-implanted with $^{56}$Fe to fluences of 2×10$^{13}$, 5×10$^{13}$ and 8 × 10$^{13}$ ions/cm2 in order to investigate the dependence of the paramagnetic relaxation rate of Fe$^{3+}$ on fluence. The study of the decay of neutron-rich Cs isotopes has two main objectives: on one side $\beta$ decay is a perfect tool to access the low-spin structures in the daughter Ba nuclei, where the evolution of octupole deformed shapes can be followed, while, on the other hand, the study of the gross properties of these decays, in terms of decay rates and branching to delayed-neutron emission, are fundamental inputs for the modelling of the r-process in the Rare-Earth Elements peak. Results obtained at CERN-ISOLDE are discussed within this framework and compared to existing data and predictions from state-of-the-art nuclear models..
