/ Rothe, S (CERN) ; Au, M (CERN ; Mainz U.) ; Ballof, J (CERN ; Mainz U.) ; Barbero, E (CERN) ; Bissell, M (CERN) ; Boucherie, A (CERN) ; Bovigny, M (CERN) ; Chrysalidis, K (CERN) ; Crepieux, B (CERN) ; Cruikshank, J (CERN) et al.
At the CERN-ISOLDE radioactive ion beam facility, thick targets are irradiated using a beam of 1.4-GeV protons. One of ISOLDE’s key features is the large choice of ion source types and target materials available, enabling us to select the ideal combination for optimal intensity and purity of the isotopes requested by ISOLDE users. Gas stoppers have been used for a long-standing successful science program at Michigan State University with stopped and rare-isotope beams produced by projectile fragmentation. The National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory’s Coupled Cyclotron Facility has recently transitioned into the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) laboratory to provide rare isotopes using a high-power superconducting linear accelerator and new production facilities. To optimize the performance of the Collinear Resonance Ionization Spectroscopy (CRIS) experiment at CERN-ISOLDE, technical upgrades are continuously introduced, aiming to enhance its sensitivity, precision, stability, and efficiency. Recently, a voltage-scanning setup was developed and commissioned at CRIS, which improved the scanning speed by a factor of three as compared to the current laser-frequency scanning approach. [...]

We report on the development, characterization, and first application of a specialized resonance ionization laser ion source for high-resolution spectroscopy applications below usual hot cavity Doppler broadening limitations, for on-line experiments at CERN-ISOLDE. The new PI-LIST ion source comprises perpendicular laser/atom beam interaction in a radio-frequency quadrupole unit directly downstream the hot atomizer cavity. [...]

The Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN) theory has been very successful in predicting the observed abundances of light elements like $^2$H, ${3,4}$He. There is, however, a serious discrepancy of a factor of about four in the observed abundance of $^7$Li as compared to that predicted by the BBN theory [1−2]. [...]
