Understanding containers and why they matter / Pimpo, Alberto (speaker)
Abstract Containers have fundamentally transformed how we build, deploy, and scale applications—providing lightweight, portable, and consistent environments across a wide range of systems. In this session, we will explore: How containers work under the hood, with a focus on kernel-level concepts and how they differ from traditional virtual machines Key use cases for containers in both development and production environments A brief introduction to cloud technologies and the role containers play in modern infrastructure Hands-on exercises tailored to various experience levels, from beginner to advanced Bio Alberto is a DevOps Engineer as CERN. He's currently working on the OKD/Openshift infrastructure, a Kubernetes based solution which hosts more than 10.000 web applications [...]

Reinforcement learning and its applications at CERN / Bunino, Matteo (speaker) (CERN)
Abstract: Reinforcement Learning (RL) has emerged as a powerful paradigm in artificial intelligence and has found exciting applications in various fields, including particle accelerators at CERN. This introductory lecture aims to provide an overview of RL and its application in optimizing beam steering in the AWAKE beamline and automating bunch splitting in the Proton Synchrotron (PS) at CERN. The lecture will begin with an introduction to the fundamentals of RL, where we will explore the concept of agents learning to make decisions through interaction with an environment [...]

Machine Learning for Trigger and Data Acquisition / James, Thomas Owen (speaker) (CERN)
Abstract The LHC produces billions of collisions per second during operation, equivalent to Pb/s of raw data for the largest experiments CMS and ATLAS. It would be impossible to readout, process or store all of this data [...]

Performance evaluation of White-Rabbit based RF and Timing distribution system for the LHC / Kaffka, Lilith (speaker) (University of Dundee (GB))
To meet the High-Luminosity LHC demand for enhanced phase stability and replace the outdated RF and timing distribution system (called TTC backbone), an upgrade to a White Rabbit-based system is planned. A compliance test showed a phase variation of less than 30 ps in a proof-of-concept system. [...]

Yet Another White Rabbit running on a low-cost, generic FPGA board / Friedt, Jean Michel (speaker) (Femto ST) ; Decoux, Emilien (speaker) (Femto ST)
In 2022, PTP became available to the masses thanks to the availability of the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 and its PTP compatible network interface [1], and now the Compute Module 5. In the meantime, PTP High Accuracy's White Rabbit has remained confined to dedicated boards providing the external oscillators needed to generate the beatnote for fine phase measurement, until 2024's Missing Link Electronics presentation of the Light Rabbit Implementation targetting the Ettus Research X310 SDR and demonstrated on the ZC706 board [2]. Precision Timing over Telecom Networks: A Comparative Study of White Rabbit-PTP and PTP / Singh Yadav, Divya (speaker) (CSIR National Physical Laboratory)
This paper presents the establishment and performance evaluation of White Rabbit (WR-PTP) and Precision Time Protocol (PTP) over a 12 km round-trip optical fiber link based on a telecom network, implemented at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – National Physical Laboratory (CSIR–NPL), New Delhi, India. Precise time and frequency synchronization is essential for a wide range of applications, including navigation, power grid management, mobile communications, and scientific research. [...]

Instrumental Delay Calibration of White Rabbit Switches for Sub-10 ns Timing in the REFIMEVE Network / Neelam, Yadav (speaker) (OBSPM)
REFIMEVE is a French national research infrastructure, officially recognized in 2021, based on a fiber-optic network that disseminates ultra-stable time and frequency signals over long distances. Reference signals originate at LTE (former SYRTE) at Paris Observatory and are primarily transported over the optical fibre network backbone of RENATER [1] [...]

Entanglement distribution of photon pairs coexisting with White Rabbit synchronization signals on the same optical fiber / Teepe, Annick (speaker)
Video: https://videos.cern.ch/record/2301746 Challenges in building large scale quantum networks are high precision time synchronization, and fluctuating conditions of the fiber links, which impact the quality of entanglement between transmitted photon pairs. White Rabbit (WR) can be used to synchronize two distant quantum network nodes with high precision. [...]
