INTERRUPTION TO COMPUTING SERVICES, SATURDAY 9 FEBRUARY

In order to allow the rerouting of electrical cables which power most of the B513 Computer Room, there will be a complete shutdown of central computing services on Saturday 9 February.
This shutdown affects all Central Computing services as well as the general purpose site wide network (137.138), and hence desktop connectivity will also be cut.
In order for the physical intervention to start at 07:30, services will be run down as follows (which has been planned to allow the completion of the Friday night backups of AFS and Oracle):

Friday 08/02

17:00 Scheduling of batch jobs suspended
    18:00 HPSS services shutdown
Saturday 09/02
01:00 Any batch jobs that have not ended will be terminated
04:00 Rundown of general purpose services including Mail, Web, NICE, Unix interactive services, ACB, CASTOR, Tape Service and finally Oracle
06:30 AIS services shutdown (including EDH, BHT and HRT)
    07:00 AFS service shutdown
07:30 End of guaranteed service on the general purpose site-wide network (137.138)
Services will be restored as soon as possible once the recabling work has finished. If this work lasts until 15:30, services will be restored according to the following schedule.

Saturday 09/02

16:15 General purpose site-wide networking restored
    17:00 AFS service restored
18:00 General purpose services including Mail, Web, NICE and Unix interactive services and ACB restored
19:30 AIS services restored (including EDH, BHT and HRT)
20:00 Data and Batch Services restarted
Naturally, ST, IT and AS Divisions will make every effort to restore services as soon as possible.
A detailed planning schedule will be kept up to date on the web at:
