The Instructor-led CERN WBTechT course for Microsoft Applications is a new type of course offered in the framework of the Technical Training Programme, combining instructor-led and computer-based multimedia training, also known as "blended learning". The next sessions will take place on the 12, 19, and 26 February (Thursday mornings), and subsequent sessions will be organised following demand.
Based on the new ElementK 2004 CERN WBTechT catalogue, courses will be self-paced and self-directed, with participants being in control of their learning, while having direct access to an instructor when in class. This complements the current offer of traditional, classroom based courses on Microsoft applications, and self-paced web-based courses with no instructor interactions. Topics include the complete Microsoft Office XP suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and Outlook, at introductory, intermediate and advanced levels. WBTechT courses are in English and will be accessed from PCs running Windows XP. The instructor is English-French bilingual, and the number of participants to a given session will be limited to 8. The detailed WBTechT course contents can be found on the 2004 CERN WBTechT Portal, http://www.course-source.net/sites/cern/, under the "Microsoft Office XP" catalogue.
Previous experience in web-based training is not required. Each session will start with a guided tour of the 2004 CERN WBTechT Portal, an introduction to E-learning, and registration of the participants into the appropriate WBTechT course(s), at a cost of 50.- CHF per Microsoft Office or Outlook course. A Training Request in EDH will be created and sent through for approval, but the administrators will enroll participants immediately to enable accesses on the same morning.
During the 3-hour study period, the instructor will provide support on the course and the contents. A question and answer session, and feedback discussion will conclude the morning. After the first classroom session, participants will be able to access unlimitedly the subscribed course(s) for 3 months. It will be then possible to attend optional follow-up sessions on subsequent Thursdays, joining in during the study period. The cost of attending any WBTechT instructor-led study or follow-up session is 48.- CHF.
Confirmed participants will be invited to a specific session, in the order of registration and according to preferences when possible. If you are interested in this new learning opportunity, and you need training in Microsoft Office or Outlook, please discuss with your supervisor and/or your Departmental Training Officer, and contact Technical.Training@cern.ch, specifying to what session you would like to participate. We shall book a place for you, create the appropriate Training Request, and invite you in due course. Please visit http://www.cern.ch/TechnicalTraining for more information, or to apply electronically.
