LHC magnet-test record

With 16 magnets tested in the week of 14 to 20 November, the team responsible for cold-testing the LHC dipole magnets has set a new record ! It takes about five days and a team of some twenty people to connect up the magnets, cool them down to -271°C, perform the cold-tests on them, and then to warm them up again. The test facility in the SM18 hall now has its full complement of twelve test benches and is operating around the clock, seven days-a-week. Some 400 magnets have already been tested.
