CAS Introductory Course in Italy
The CERN Accelerator School’s introductory course is a great success.
This year the CERN Accelerator School held its "Introduction to Accelerator Physics" course in Frascati, Italy, from 2-14 November in collaboration with the University of Rome "La Sapienza" and the INFN Frascati National Laboratory.
The Introductory level course is particularly important since, for the majority of participants, it is the first opportunity to discover the various aspects of accelerator physics. For this school the programme had been significantly revised in order to take into account the new trends currently being developed in the field, thus putting more emphasis on linacs, synchrotron light sources and free-electron lasers.
The school was a resounding success with 115 participants of more than 23 nationalities. Feedback from the students praised the expertise of the lecturers, the high standard of the lectures as well as the excellent organization.
The programme comprised 38 lectures, three seminars, four tutorials, a poster session where students could present their own work and six hours of private and guided study.
In addition to the academic programme, the participants were able to visit the INFN Frascati Laboratory and take part in a one-day excursion to Rome.
The next CAS course will be a specialized course on magnets, which will take place in Bruges, Belgium, from 16-25 June 2009. Information will soon be available on the CAS web site (https://www.cern.ch/schools/CAS).
