Italian visit


In the ATLAS cavern, the Italian Minister for Foreign Affairs smiling beside Rolf Heuer, CERN Director-General, and Fabiola Gianotti, spokesperson designate of ATLAS.

Franco Frattini, Italian Minister for Foreign Affairs, paid a visit to CERN on 29 January. He was welcomed by the Director-General, Rolf Heuer, and the Director for Research and Scientific Computing, Sergio Bertolucci, before visiting ATLAS. Fabiola Gianotti, spokesperson designate of ATLAS, Guido Tonelli, Deputy spokesperson of CMS, and Monica Pepe Altarelli from the LHCb collaboration, presented their experimental activities. The Minister was then invited to meet Carlo Rubbia, the Nobel Prize winner and former Director-General of CERN, Antonino Zichichi, from the ALICE collaboration and the University of Bologna, and Jurgen Schukraft, spokesperson of the ALICE collaboration. He also met representatives of the Italian community at CERN.
