CERN Technical Training: LABVIEW courses include RADE

The contents of the "LabView Basic I" and "LabView Intermediate II" courses have recently been changed to include, respectively, an introduction to and expert training in the Rapid Application Development Environment (RADE).

RADE is a LabView-based application developed at CERN to integrate LabView in the accelerator and experiment control infrastructure. It is a suitable solution to developing expert tools, machine development analysis and independent test facilities.

The course names have also been changed to "LabVIEW Basics I with RADE Introduction" and "LabVIEW Intermediate II with Advanced RADE Application".

" LabVIEW Basics I with RADE Introduction" is designed for:

Users preparing to develop applications using LabVIEW, or NI Developer Suite; users and technical managers evaluating LabVIEW or NI Developer Suite in purchasing decisions; users pursuing the Certified LabVIEW Developer certification. The course prepares participants to develop test and measurement, data acquisition, instrument control, data logging, and measurement analysis applications using LabVIEW. At the end of the training, participants will be able to create applications that acquire, process, display and store real-world data. They will also be informed about the RADE framework.

Contents:

- Introduction to LabVIEW

- Modular programming

- Repetition and loops

- Arrays

- Clusters

- Plotting data

- Decision making in a VI

- Strings and files I/O

- Data acquisition and Waveforms

- Instrument control

- VI customization

- RADE scope an functionality

- RADE access examples (JAPC, CMW, ORACLE, SDDS, DIM)

The next sessions of this course will take place in French on 8-10 June, 2009 and in English on 28-30 September 2009

"LabVIEW Intermediate II with Advanced RADE Application" is designed for LabVIEW users who need to maximize the performance of their LabVIEW application or to extend the functionality by connecting to the network or other applications. The course builds on the skills taught in "LabVIEW Application Development", and teaches memory management and performance enhancing techniques to maximize application performance.

Participants also learn how to extend application functionality by leveraging the capabilities of other applications using connectivity technologies such as DLLs, ActiveX, and the Internet, further reducing development time. Participants also learn how to use the Rapid Application Development Environment (RADE) tools to interface with the CERN control infrastructures.

Contents:

DAY 1: Improving Performance; Event Programming; Shared Libraries (DLLs)

DAY 2: VI Server; Windows Communication Platforms; DataSocket; TCP/IP; RADE applications (JAPC, CMW, ORACLE, SDDS, DIM).

The next sessions of this course will take place in English on 14-15 May 2009 and in French on 29-30 October 2009.
