The 2009 Relay Race

The 2009 CERN Relay Race was as popular as ever, with a record number of 88 teams competing.

Even the rain didn’t dampen the spirits, and it still managed to capture the ‘festival feeling’ with live music, beer and stalls from various CERN clubs set up outside Restaurant 1.

Live music helped create a festival atmosphere.

The Powercuts took the trophy in the ‘Seniors’ category, with a winning time of 11 minutes 4 seconds, and the ‘CMS Sparks’ won the women’s category. A full list of winners is available.

Although not a category in the race, the teams with the most inventive names also deserve an honorary mention. The Bulletin’s favourites are: ‘The Splice Boys’, the ‘Pirates of the Cernibbean’, and ‘Fashionably late’. And it is good to know that the team ‘Goodbye Austria’ will have to change their name for next years race.
