Three Presidents in one day

The President of Poland, Lech Kaczyński, and the First Lady visited the CMS experiment.

It was a busy day for many at CERN on 15 June with visits from the Presidents of Argentina, Poland and Mozambique all in one day! The three Presidents were in Geneva for a summit organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO), and couldn’t resist the opportunity to see CERN before heading home.

Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, President of Argentina, visited the ATLAS cavern with Minister of Science and Technology, Lino Barañao. While at CERN Kirchner signed an agreement between CERN and Argentina to collaborate further in accelerator physics. The agreement was also signed by Lino Barañao and Mario Benedetti, Head of the Laboratorio de Instrumentacion y Control at the Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata.

The President of Poland, Lech Kaczyński, and the First Lady visited the CMS experiment followed by a gaggle of Polish reporters. Back on the surface Kaczyński met some of the Polish staff working at CERN.
