INFORM'ACTION

INFORM’ACTION Commission !
It’s all in the title !

At a time when one of the keywords is COMMUNICATE, the Staff Association has a duty to take it seriously. This is why, among other reasons, the youngest of the Staff Association internal commissions was created in 20005.

As its name indicates, this commission is responsible for INFORMING, TRAINING (FORMER) and organizing ACTIONs.

INFORMING :

The members of this commission endeavour to work using all imaginable and known channels of information: articles, emails, alerts, posters, web site, organizing meetings, distributing flyers, banners, videos, etc.

In 2009 a new web site (http://cern.ch/association) was put on line.

Since then this site has been continually updated to provide information regarding the latest news in the social domain (Pension Fund, CHIS, 5YR), and also special offers for our members, club news, and social and cultural activities.

In 2009 and 2010, the Staff Association notice boards were revamped and moved around to be more visible, so as to better inform you about our activities and our/your news. In parallel, we launched varied and innovative poster campaigns.

At the beginning of summer 2010, a TV screen was set up between the Users’ Office and the Staff Association, opposite restaurant 1 to give you live information.

TRAINING:

Some of you have chosen to become involved in the Staff Association and stood for election to Staff Council. The elected delegates, old and new, need help from the Staff Association to carry out their function effectively and to represent you to the best of their ability in the various committees, forums, and commissions, etc. Indeed, the tasks of a delegate are many and varied, and sometimes need specialized knowledge. This is why the INFORM’ACTION commission proposes and organizes training, according to needs.
Furthermore, via a system of mentoring set up in 2010, the more experienced delegates are available to support, guide, advise and, in a way, train the new delegates.

Organizing ACTION:

Staff Association actions come in all shapes and sizes: gatherings, setting up information stands, demonstrations, and meetings, etc.

This year, for example, following the devastating earthquake in Haiti, the members of the INFORM’ACTION commission organized a fundraising event. Announcements, articles, posters, collection points; everything was organized in an appeal to you to help the severely hit Haitians, and it worked. Indeed, 51,250 CHF were collected thanks to your generosity.

Further actions have been organized, such as the staff mobilization on 18 March 2010, when 2000 people demonstrated at CERN. The commission played an important role in the preparation and organization which made this mobilization a success.

So you see, the INFORM ‘ACTION commission does not tackle one theme in particular, it is there to develop a communication strategy, support the other commissions, and be able to deliver to you the fruit of its work by managing the circulation of information and, sometimes, by organizing staff mobilization, when necessary. Creativity and a sense of organization are two of many skills demonstrated by the members of INFORM’ACTION.
