800 Fellows at CERN: Make your voice heard!

The financial and social conditions of the CERN personnel are determined in agreement between the CERN Management and the Staff Association (SA), the statutory body representing the personnel. The Staff Association is mandated to serve and defend the economic, social, professional and moral interests of its members and the entire CERN personnel. Fellows are members of the personnel employed by CERN (MPE), and should be listened to and heard during discussions that concern their financial and social conditions and, more widely, their working and employment conditions.

The Staff Association wants to hear from you!

At the end of 2017, 50 delegates were elected to the Staff Council, including four fellows. These delegates are your spokespersons within the Staff Association and, as such, they represent you in relations with the Management and the Member States.

How can you make a difference?

In 2015, during the latest five-yearly review, the aim of which was to review the financial and social conditions of the members of the personnel, your fellow representatives at the Staff Association were able to make significant progress in social conditions, in terms of parental benefits. A good example of this is the extension of health coverage for the entire period of maternity leave, irrespective of the termination date of the contract, or yet the extension of a fellowship contract after maternity leave in case of extreme hardship.

Exploring further!

In 2017, the fellow delegates organised a cocktail event for all CERN fellows. The Staff Association was delighted to encourage this get-together and plans on renewing this event in the near future.

This year, your fellow delegates are preparing a survey to find out more about your concerns and any difficulties you may have encountered during recruitment or when taking up your duties at CERN, but also to give you the opportunity to put forward your ideas for improving the employment conditions of fellows at CERN.

In preparation for the next five-yearly review in 2020, we invite you to join us and become members of the Staff Association. Having more fellow members will allow us to represent you better and, above all, to pass on your ideas.

How to find us?

A list of delegates of the personnel is accessible on the website of the Staff Association: http://staff-association.web.cern.ch/delegates.

If you are not sure who is the delegate closest to you, please contact the SA Secretariat (Staff.Association@cern.ch), or better yet, come visit us in the Main Building on the Meyrin site.

We hope that you will soon become a member of the Staff Association, which is, after all, the Association of all CERN personnel, including the more than 800 fellows.
