ORIENTEERING CLUB

CERN Orienteering Club (COC) Program for Spring 2019

With the ending of the winter season, the CERN Orienteering Club invites you to practice orienteering and discover its program of activities for the coming months.

The school, which welcomes children from the age of 7 on Wednesday afternoons, will hold its first training session on 3rd April. An introduction to orienteering for families with games and some fun routes is planned on 1st May afternoon in Les Evaux. The club will also offer a series of popular races this Spring in collaboration with other clubs in the area. The kick-off will be given on Saturday 6 April at 1pm in Plamont close to Lausanne with a long-distance race, and then the programme will be as follows:

13 April: Prevondavaux (VD)

27 April: Valleiry (74)

4th May: Vesancy - le Riamont (01)

11 May: Prémanon (39)

18 May: Trelex (VD)

19 May:  Bénété (VD)

25 May:  Haut Valromey (01)

15 June: Bellefontaine (39)

These races are open to all, irrespective of level, from beginners to experienced athletes, in families or individually. Registration to one of the five proposed courses is done on site on the day of the event. A "Spring Cup" ranking will be determined at the end of the last race, taking the best results.

These training sessions for young people as well as popular races are an excellent way to discover or improve in this discipline. The club has thus launched a number of young people who have persevered and achieved excellent results in national and international competitions. In 2018, Julien Vuitton in the “under-18” category won his second European championship title, Thibault Rouiller in the “H12” category scored a well-deserved second place in the last Swiss national race and Titouan Barge, in the first year of the “H12” category, finished 9th in a Swiss national race. The season has already begun for Julien, who has completed several training camps with the French Team and has just won, on the competition side, the Portugal Orienteering Meeting; he will now defend on 23rd March his first place achieved in 2018 at the Swiss Night Championship.
