HAPPY NEW YEAR OF CCC
As Chair of the CERN Clubs Coordinating Committee, I should like to take this opportunity to wish all CERN Club Committee Members and CERN Club members a happy, healthy and successful New Year.
CERN Clubs offer sports, leisure and cultural activities, enhancing non-professional relations between people working at CERN and facilitating integration of them and their families into the local area, as CERN Clubs are also open to people from within the region.
2020 is going to be an eventful and exciting year for CERN Clubs; in March, the CERN Ski Club will be hosting the 14th Winter Atomiade. Over the course of a week, the Winter Atomiade includes alpine skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing challenges, as well as other more fun events in a friendly and convivial atmosphere. The Atomiade 2020 will take place from 21th to 28th of March in the Avoriaz Resort with capacity for around 300 participants, all accommodated in the centre of the resort (see https://atomiade.web.cern.ch/ for more information).
Amongst the myriad activities organised by clubs, the CERN Fitness Club is in the process of upgrading facilities for members who wish to make use of individual gym equipment, in addition to the extensive palette of group activities which are already organised by the Club. The CERN Running Club celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2020, so we should expect an extra-special edition of the annual CERN Relay Race this year, why not start training early with your to ensure you are in fine-form for the race!
We are also hoping that 2020 will see the creation of some new clubs, to offer people working at CERN and in the local region more opportunities to develop new skills, whilst having fun and meeting people who share similar passions.
