CERN GOLF CLUB

 CERN Golf Club tees off

The CERN Golf Club finally started its 2020 season on 24 July with 24 players teeing off at Domaine de Divonne.

The Covid-19 lockdown struck just before the first event in the club’s calendar of competitions that take place at some of the best golf courses in the area.  With the beautiful spring weather, it was frustrating to have to cancel so many events but the safety of our members is our priority and we were fully compliant with the instructions for all CERN clubs.

As lockdown was lifted, all the CERN Clubs were keen to resume their activities.  Part of that process was to prepare and agree a safety plan.  Fortunately, the CERN Golf Club is affiliated to the Fédération Française de Golf (FFG) which was quick to introduce clear regulations that allowed golfers to return to the fairway whilst respecting social distancing and other measures to reduce the spread of coronavirus.  The Committee shared the FFG’s rules and risk assessments with CERN, and once it was confirmed that we could operate safely, we opened bookings for our first event.

Divonne is always a popular event, and especially so this year. The course was in excellent condition and after an enjoyable afternoon of friendly competition, our winners were Peter Sollander and Helen Ardiff.  Bookings are already open for our next event at Maison Blanche on 7 August.

The CERN Golf Club is a friendly club that welcomes new members.  If you’re interested in joining, please take a look at our website or contact the President.
