Abstract This note presents a search for direct top squark pair production followed by decays to Higgs bosons using events with one or two electrons or muons and several jets, with at least three of them identified as originating from a b quark. The analysis is performed with $19.5~\rm{fb^{-1}}$ of proton-proton collision data at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC. The results are interpreted in the context of a simplified model with pair production of a top squark $\tilde{\rm{t}}_{2}$ decaying to a top squark $\tilde{\rm{t}}_{1}$ via $\tilde{\rm{t}}_{2}\rightarrow \rm{H} \tilde{\rm{t}}_{1}$, followed by $\tilde{\rm{t}}_{1} \rightarrow \rm{t}$ $\tilde{\chi}_1^0$. The interpretation concentrates on the region of signal mass parameter space $\mathrm{M}(\tilde{\rm{t}}_{1})$-$\mathrm{M}(\tilde{\chi}_1^0)$$\sim$$\rm{M}(\rm{t})$, which is not covered by existing searches. The analysis excludes at the 95\% confidence level top squarks with masses $\mathrm{M}(\tilde{\rm{t}}_{2})$ up to about $450$ GeV for $\mathrm{M}(\tilde{\rm{t}}_{1})$ up to about $250$ GeV.
