Abstract We propose a measurement of the $^{49}$Ca(d,p) reaction in inverse kinematics using the ISOLDE Solenoidal Spectrometer (ISS). The purpose of this measurement is to measure cross sections to states in $^{50}$Ca to use as an input for spectroscopic factor calculations. These experimentally-guided spectroscopic factors will provide an important test to phenomenological and ab initio interactions. A 200 $\mu$g/cm$^{-2}$ CD$_2$ target will be positioned within the ISS onto which a 10 MeV/u beam of $^{49}$Ca shall be transported to.
