The ALICE Data Quality Control
/ von Haller, Barthélémy (CERN) ; Konopka, Piotr (CERN)
/ALICE Collaboration
ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) has undertaken a major upgrade during the Long Shutdown 2. The increase in the detector data rates, and in particular the continuous readout of the TPC, led to a hundredfold increase in the input raw data, up to 3.5 TB/s. [...]

Job splitting on the ALICE grid, introducing the new job optimizer for the ALICE grid middleware
/ Reme-Ness, Haakon André (HVL, Norway) ; Grigoras¸, Costin (CERN) ; Helstrup, Håvard (HVL, Norway) ; Kileng, Bjarte (HVL, Norway) ; Storetvedt, Maksim (CERN) ; Betev, Latchezar (CERN)
This contribution introduces the job optimizer service for the nextgeneration ALICE Grid middleware, JAliEn (Java Alice Environment). It is a continuous service running on central machines and is essentially responsible for splitting jobs into subjobs, to then be distributed and executed on the ALICE grid. [...]

/ de Souza Pereira, Jomar Júnior (Rio de Janeiro Federal U.) ; Telesca, Adriana (CERN) ; Simão, Mario Günter (Rio de Janeiro Federal U.) ; Seixas, Jose Manuel (Rio de Janeiro Federal U.) ; Coura Torres, Rodrigo (Rio de Janeiro Federal U.)
The "A Large Ion Collider Experiment" (ALICE), one of the four large experiments at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), is responsible for studying the physics of strongly interacting matter and the quark-gluon plasma. In order to ensure the full success of ALICE operation and data taking during the Large Hadron Collider Runs 3 and 4, a list of tasks identified as Service Work is established and maintained. [...]

The ALICE Grid Workflow for LHC Run 3
/ Storetvedt, Maxim (CERN) ; Betev, Latchezar (CERN) ; Helstrup, Håvard (HVL, Norway) ; Hetland, Kristin Fanebust (HVL, Norway) ; Kileng, Bjarte (HVL, Norway)
In preparation for LHC Run 3 and 4 the ALICE Collaboration has moved to a new Grid middleware, JAliEn, and workflow management system. The migration was dictated by the substantially higher requirements on the Grid infrastructure in terms of payload complexity, increased number of jobs and managed data volume, all of which required a complete rewrite of the middleware using modern software languages and technologies. [...]

The ALICE Membership system
/ de Souza Pereira, Jomar Júnior (Rio de Janeiro Federal U.) ; Telesca, Adriana (CERN) ; Seixas, Jose Manuel (Rio de Janeiro Federal U.) ; Coura Torres, Rodrigo (Rio de Janeiro Federal U.)
With over 2000 active members from 174 institutes over 41 countries in the world, the ALICE experiment is one of the 4 large experiments at CERN. With such numerous interactions, the experiment management needs a way to record members’ participation history and their current status, such as employment, institutes, appointments, clusters and funding agencies, as well as to automatically generate the physics paper author list considering the experiment publication policy. Bookkeeping, a new logbook system for ALICE
/ Boulais, Martin (CERN) ; Raduta, George C (CERN) ; Huijberts, Jik (CERN)
The ALICE experiment at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider is designed to study the physics of strongly interacting matter at extreme energy densities, where a quark-gluon plasma is expected to be formed. After a major upgrade, the new ALICE Online-Offline computational system expects to read an estimated throughput of 3.5TB/s of raw data and store and index 900Gb/s reconstructed data. [...]

Multicore workflow characterisation methodology for payloads running in the ALICE Grid
/ Ferrer, Marta Bertran (CERN) ; Grigoras, Costin (CERN) ; Badia, Rosa M (Barcelona Supercomputing Ctr.)
For LHC Run3 the ALICE experiment software stack has been completely refactored, incorporating support for multicore job execution. Whereas in both LHC Run 1 and 2 the Grid jobs were single-process and made use of a single CPU core, the new multicore jobs spawn multiple processes and threads within the payload. [...]

The three innermost layers of the ALICE Inner Tracking System (ITS2) will be replaced by a truly cylindrical tracker, the ITS3, to be ready for LHC Run 4 (2029–2032). The ITS3 will be composed of three layers, each made by two self-supporting, ultra-thin (≤50μm) flexible Monolithic Active Pixel silicon Sensors (MAPS) of large area (O(10 × 26 cm2)). [...]
