Prototypes and R&D; for undulator-based positron sources / Moortgat-Pick, Gudrid (Hamburg U. ; DESY) ; Formela, Manuel (Hamburg U.) ; Hamann, Niclas (Hamburg U.) ; Lengler, Tim (HZDR, Dresden) ; Lott, Dieter (HZDR, Dresden) ; Loisch, Gregor (DESY) ; Riemann, Sabine (DESY, Zeuthen) ; Sievers, Peter (CERN) ; Tenholt, Carmen (DESY) ; Yakopov, Grigory (DESY)
The undulator-based positron source is baseline design for the ILC. Recent progress in particular on the undulator mask designs, optic matching devices (R&D; for prototypes for pulsed solenoid, plasma lens) and on the target design (rotating wheel, material tests) are discussed. [...]

Numerical Optimization of 6D Cooling Solenoids for a Muon Collider / Fabbri, S (CERN) ; Bottura, L (CERN) ; Statera, M (LASA, Segrate)
In the current most evolved design concept of a machine for accelerating and colliding muons, there exists two long (∼1 km) channels for cooling newly created muons and antimuons. Termed the ‘6D cooling channels’, the beam is cooled in momentum and position space using a series of alternating polarity solenoids which create an oscillating field in the beam direction, absorbers and radio-frequency cavities. Laser-Induced Quench Study of the Magneto-Thermal Stability of Nb$_3$Sn Wires / Kuczynska, J H (CERN ; Geneva U.) ; Hopkins, S C (CERN) ; Senatore, C (Geneva U.) ; Boutboul, T (CERN)
In the pursuit of developing 14+ T Nb$_3$Sn magnets for a future energy-frontier circular collider, there is a growing demand for wires with enhanced critical current density (Jc), larger diameters, and lower copper-to-non-copper ratios. These requirements pose significant challenges to maintaining magnetothermal stability of the superconducting wires. [...]

In accordance with the guidelines set forth in the Updated European Strategy for Particle Physics, the International Muon Collider Collaboration has been initiated to assess the feasibility of a Muon Collider facility with a center-of-mass energy of 10 TeV. The primary challenges stem from the brief muon lifetime at rest, which is limited to 2.2 µs. [...]

Beam dynamics design and optimization of a standalone radio frequency quadrupole accelerator for swift heavy ions / Koyickal, Sruthy Varma ; Kumar, Sarvesh (IUAC, New Delhi) ; Jakhar, Niketan (Nehru U.) ; Thakur, Chandan (Nehru U.) ; Yogesh ; Kashyap, Manish K (Nehru U.) ; Lombardi, Alessandra (CERN)
A standalone high energy, 352 MHz radio frequency quadrupole (RFQ) design is presented, resulting into targeted energy gain of 1.8 MeV/u with a beam current of 1 mA for mass to charge (A/q) ratio ≤ 4. It avoids many separate stages of transverse and longitudinal matching of beams compared to a standard RFQ + DTL accelerator combination due to automatic adiabatic bunching, focusing and acceleration of the beam and thus prevent many beam diagnostic and vacuum components. [...]

SPS fast spill monitor developments / Benitez Berrocal, Sara (CERN) ; Goldblatt, Aurelie (CERN) ; Belohrad, David (CERN) ; Balci, Elif (CERN) ; Roncarolo, Federico (CERN) ; Martin Nieto, Miguel (CERN) ; Mazzoni, Stefano (CERN) ; Burger, Stephane (CERN)
The North Area facility (NA) receives the 400 GeV proton beam through a slow extraction process at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS). To improve the SPS spill quality, it is crucial to monitor the spill intensity from the nA up to the µA range with a bandwidth extending from a few Hz up to several GHz along the extraction line. Studies of single and multi-bunch instabilities in linacs using RF-Track / Latina, Andrea (CERN)
In high-intensity linacs, bunch-to-bunch effects due to the excitation of short and long-range wakefields can lead to beam instabilities and beam breakup. Wakefields can be due to resistive or geometric effects excited in the RF structures or in the beam pipe. [...]
