The insulating vacuum within the ITER Cryostat has a prime purpose to minimize the heat load on the superconducting coil system by gas thermal conductivity. These coils are shielded from thermal radiation by an 80 K helium-cooled silver-coated thermal shield (TS) consisting of ~500 panels. [...]

Beam dynamics design and optimization of a standalone radio frequency quadrupole accelerator for swift heavy ions
/ Koyickal, Sruthy Varma ; Kumar, Sarvesh (IUAC, New Delhi) ; Jakhar, Niketan (Nehru U.) ; Thakur, Chandan (Nehru U.) ; Yogesh ; Kashyap, Manish K (Nehru U.) ; Lombardi, Alessandra (CERN)
A standalone high energy, 352 MHz radio frequency quadrupole (RFQ) design is presented, resulting into targeted energy gain of 1.8 MeV/u with a beam current of 1 mA for mass to charge (A/q) ratio ≤ 4. It avoids many separate stages of transverse and longitudinal matching of beams compared to a standard RFQ + DTL accelerator combination due to automatic adiabatic bunching, focusing and acceleration of the beam and thus prevent many beam diagnostic and vacuum components. Motorized Universal Adjustment Platform for Micrometric Adjustment of Accelerator Components
/ Noir, Michel (CERN) ; Baillard, Dylan (CERN) ; Biedrawa, Piotr (CERN ; AGH-UST, Cracow) ; Gentini, Luca (CERN) ; Gothe, Aleksandur (Aarhus U.) ; Jasonek, Wojciech (CERN ; AGH-UST, Cracow) ; Nuiry, Francois-Xavier (CERN) ; Rude, Vivien (CERN) ; Seidenbinder, Regis (CERN) ; Sosin, Mateusz (CERN) et al.
In order to optimize alignment activities in a highly radioactive environment, the Geodetic Metrology Group at CERN has developed a standardized featuring 6 degree of freedom (DoF) Universal Adjustment Platform (UAP). After a first prototyping phase in 2021 with a manual UAP, the design has been consolidated and is now compatible with the installation of motorized actuators to form a remotely adjustable 5-6 DoF platform able to perform positioning with micrometre resolution. The Large Hadron Collider's beam wire scanner consolidation
/ Emery, Jonathan (CERN) ; Guerrero, Ana (CERN) ; Goldblatt, Aurelie (CERN) ; Pasquino, Chiara (CERN) ; Belohrad, David (CERN) ; Roncarolo, Federico (CERN) ; Sullivan, Harry (CERN) ; Tassan-Viol, Jean (CERN) ; Littoz, Laetitia (CERN) ; Ramos, Maria Teresa (CERN) et al.
To serve the needs of the High Luminosity (HL) LHC, a consolidation of the beam wire scanner has been initiated. The instrument is a crucial tool for measuring the transverse beam profile by moving a thin carbon wire across the beam. [...]

SPS fast spill monitor developments

The North Area facility (NA) receives the 400 GeV proton beam through a slow extraction process at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS). To improve the SPS spill quality, it is crucial to monitor the spill intensity from the nA up to the µA range with a bandwidth extending from a few Hz up to several GHz along the extraction line. Design and first results of a cryogenic beam loss monitor installed at the LHC
/ Effinger, Ewald (CERN) ; Morales Vigo, Sara (CERN) ; Salvachua, Belen (CERN) ; Storey, James (CERN) ; Zamantzas, Christos (CERN) ; Griesmayer, Erich (TU Vienna ; CIVIDEC)
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is equipped with NiTb superconducting magnets operating at the cryogenic temperature of 2.9 K. A tiny fraction of proton beam at 7 TeV impacting the magnet coils has the potential to generate enough heat, leading to the loss of superconductivity in the magnets. [...]

The study of high-frequency pick-ups for electron beam position measurements in the AWAKE common beamline
/ Pakuza, Collette (CERN) ; Spear, Bethany (JAI, UK) ; Poimenidou, Eirini (CERN) ; Senes, Eugenio (CERN) ; Wendt, Manfred (CERN) ; Krupa, Michal (CERN) ; van Gils, Nikita (CERN ; Groningen U.) ; Burrows, Philip (JAI, UK) ; Liu, Shengli (Fermilab) ; Mazzoni, Stefano (CERN) et al.
The common beamline of the AWAKE experiment at CERN involves the co-propagation of two particle beams: protons with 48 nC bunch charge and 250 ps bunch length, and electrons with up to 600 pC bunch charge and approximately 4 ps bunch length. The existing operational beam position monitors at AWAKE cannot measure the electron bunches whilst the more-intense proton bunches are present, due to their low operating frequency. [...]
