Integrated modeling of the beam formation and extraction in the Linac4 hydrogen negative ion source / Nishioka, S (Keio U.) ; Abe, S (Keio U.) ; Mattei, S (CERN) ; Lallement, J B (CERN) ; Kalvas, T (Jyvaskyla U.) ; Hatayama, A (Keio U.) ; Lettry, J (CERN)
In order to make the predictive simulation tools for the extracted beam current and emittance in the Linac4 H− ion source, we have launched the development of the integrated model for the H− ion beam formation and extraction process. More specifically, our 3D KEIO-Beam Formation and eXtraction (3D KEIO-BFX) is coupled with the NINJA, IBSIMU and TRAVEL. [...]

Plasma impedance prediction model and impedance matching by frequency tuning in radio frequency negative ion sources / Kobayashi, W (Keio U.) ; Nishida, K (Keio U.) ; Mattei, S (CERN) ; Lettry, J (CERN) ; Hatayama, A (Keio U.)
A radio frequency (RF) driven type hydrogen (H−) source is used as an injector of Linac4. The power transfer efficiency between the RF generator and the ion source plasma is one of the important parameters that determines the extracted H− beam current. [...]

In the framework of the LHC Injector Upgrade program, a new normal conducting linac (Linac4) operating at the frequency of 352 MHz has been recently commissioned to the final energy of 160 MeV. Linac4 will be connected to the LHC injector chain in 2020 and it is expected to provide a 40 mA, 400 µs H− beam for charge-exchange injection into the Proton Synchrotron Booster. [...]

Analysis of H− extraction in the Linac4 negative ion source by 2.5D particle simulation / Abe, S (Keio U.) ; Nishioka, S (Keio U.) ; Mattei, S (CERN) ; Miyamoto, K (Naruto U. of Education) ; Hatayama, A (Keio U.) ; Lettry, J (CERN)
The purpose of this study is to investigate the extraction mechanisms of the H− ions in the Linac4 negative ion source by using an improved two-dimensional in real space and three-dimensional in velocity space Particle in Cell (2D3V-PIC) model. In this model, the following collision processes of the surface produced H− (Hsp−) ions have been introduced and the effects of the collisions on H− extraction have been analyzed: elastic (Hsp− - H2) and charge exchange (Hsp− - H). [...]

Operation of a Cryogenic Current Comparator with Nanoampere Resolution for Continuous Beam Intensity Measurements in the Antiproton Decelerator at CERN / Fernandes, Miguel (CERN ; U. Low-intensity charged particle beams are particularly challenging for non-perturbative beam diagnostics due to the small amplitude of induced electromagnetic fields. The Antiproton Decelerator (AD) and Extra Low ENergy Antiproton (ELENA) rings at CERN decelerate beams containing 10⁷ antiprotons. [...]
