Conceptual design of an off-momentum collimation system in the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron for High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider proton beams / Patecki, Marcin (CERN) ; Mereghetti, Alessio (CERN) ; Mirarchi, Daniele (CERN) ; Redaelli, Stefano (CERN)
The CERN accelerator complex is undergoing an upgrade in order to meet the requirements of the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC). One of the key needs is to increase the intensity of beams injected into the LHC from the current $1.15 \times 10^{11}$ to $2.3 \times 10^{11}$ $p^+ $ /bunch. [...]

The cooling systems of the future tracking detectors of the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN will be entirely based on CO$_2$ refrigeration technology. The system is a booster refrigeration system, composed of a two stage primary part with transcritical R744 equipment and a low temperature secondary CO2 pumped loop. [...]

The High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (LHC) Project target is to reach an integrated luminosity of the LHC of 3000 fb$^{−1}$, corresponding to a factor 10 increase in collisions with respect to the current accelerator. One of the main components is the superconducting quadrupole called MQXF. [...]

A methodology for the analysis of the three-dimensional mechanical behavior of a Nb$_3$Sn superconducting accelerator magnet during a quench / Ferradas Troitino, J (CERN ; Geneva U.) ; Bajas, H (CERN) ; Bianchi, L (CERN) ; Castaldo, B (CERN) ; Ferracin, P (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Guinchard, M (CERN) ; Izquierdo, S (CERN) ; Lorenzo, J V (Barcelona Supercomputing Ctr.) ; Mangiarotti, F (CERN) ; Perez, J C (CERN) et al.
The fast thermal and electromagnetic transients that occur in a superconducting magnet in case of a quench have the potential of generating large mechanical stresses both in the superconducting coils and in the magnet structure. While the investigation of such quench loads should generally be conducted to ensure a safe operation of the system, its importance is greatly enlarged in the case of high-field magnets based on strain sensitive superconductors. Numerical optimization of dc wire parameters for mitigation of the long range beam-beam interactions in High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider / Skoufaris, K (CERN ; Crete U. ; Unlisted, GR) ; Fartoukh, S (CERN) ; Papaphilippou, Y (CERN) ; Poyet, A (CERN) ; Rossi, A (CERN) ; Sterbini, G (CERN) ; Kaltchev, D (TRIUMF)
Several configurations of the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider, whose performance at collision is mainly limited due to the strong beam-beam long-range interactions, are studied in the presence of dc wire compensators. This analysis is based on analytical and numerical calculations where the main observables are the dynamic aperture (correlated to the beam lifetime) and the frequency map analysis. [...]

Mechanical Behavior of the Shielded HL-LHC Beam Screen during a Magnet Quench / Morrone, Marco (CERN) ; Garion, Cedric (CERN) ; Chiggiato, Paolo (CERN) ; Sacristan De Frutos, Oscar ; Guinchard, Michael (CERN) ; Fiscarelli, Lucio (CERN)
In the framework of the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) project, larger and shielded beam screens will be installed in the beam pipe of the superconducting magnets of the insertion next to the ATLAS and CMS detectors. The beam screen is a complex assembly that guarantees the vacuum requirements while shielding the magnet cold mass from the induced heat loads. [...]

Electromagnetic characterization of the crystal primary collimators for the HL-LHC / Quartullo, D (Rome U. ; INFN, Rome) ; Arpaia, P (Naples U.) ; Biancacci, N (CERN) ; Giordano, F (CERN ; Naples U.) ; Lamas Garcia, I (CERN) ; Mostacci, A (Rome U. ; INFN, Rome) ; Palumbo, L (Rome U.) ; Redaelli, S (CERN) ; Salvant, B (CERN) ; Teofili, L (CERN) et al.
The crystal-based primary collimators installed in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN use the channelling process in bent crystals to steer halo particles efficiently onto downstream collimators. This scheme, called crystal collimation, is also considered for applications of fixed-target implementations in the context of the Physics Beyond Collider at the LHC. [...]

Activity on the Sextupole Round Coil Superferric Magnet Prototype at LASA / Mariotto, Samuele ; Leone, Augusto ; Paccalini, Antonio ; Pasini, Alessandro ; Pedrini, Danilo ; Quadrio, Mauro ; Sorbi, Massimo ; Statera, Marco ; Todero, Maurizio ; Valente, Riccardo
The LASA Laboratory (INFN, Milan, Italy) is developing an unconventional type of superferric magnets suitable to arbitrary multipole order, which we refer to as round coil superferric magnets. This type of magnet is suitable for strain-sensitive superconductors because it uses round coils with large bending radius to create the magnetic field, while the round yoke with arbitrary multipoles is able to create the desired harmonic component for the magnet.
