Corrections of high-order nonlinearities in the LHC and High-Luminosity LHC beam optics / Dilly, Joschua Werner (CERN)
The impact of high-order nonlinear magnetic field errors on the performance of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and its planned High-Luminosity upgrade, the HL-LHC, has been extensively studied. Particularly, the presence of such errors in the Insertion Regions (IR) has shown significant repercussions due to the high beta-functions and feed-down to lower orders caused by crossing schemes. Effects of cavity pre-detuning on RF power transients at injection into the LHC / Karlsen-Baeck, B E (CERN ; Rome U.) ; Argyropoulos, T (CERN) ; Butterworth, A (CERN) ; Calaga, R (CERN) ; Karpov, I (CERN) ; Timko, H (CERN) ; Zampetakis, M (CERN)
At injection into the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the radiofrequency (RF) system is perturbed by beam-induced voltage resultingin strong RF power transients and the instant detuning of thecavities. The automatic tuning system, however, needs time for themechanical compensation of the resonance frequency to takeplace. [...]

Impact of beam-coupling impedance on the Schottky spectrum of bunched beam / Lannoy, C (CERN ; LPHE, Lausanne) ; Lasocha, K (CERN) ; Pieloni, T (LPHE, Lausanne) ; Alves, D (CERN) ; Mounet, N (CERN)
The Schottky monitors of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) canbe used for non-invasive beam diagnostics to estimate various bunchcharacteristics, such as tune, chromaticity, bunch profile orsynchrotron frequency distribution. However, collective effects, inparticular beam-coupling impedance, can significantly affectSchottky spectra when large bunch charges are involved. [...]

Radiological Characterization with a Fluence Conversion Coefficients–Based Method: A Practical Example of the Preparatory Studies to the Pilot Beam at the CERN Large Hadron Collider / Bozzato, Davide (CERN) ; Froeschl, Robert (CERN)
At high-energy accelerator facilities like the ones that are part of the accelerator complex at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), Monte Carlo radiation transport codes are widely employed to face the challenges of estimating radionuclide production yields and activities with the aim of performing the radiological characterization of activated components. Indeed, it is of paramount importance to ensure adequate radiation protection during scheduled maintenance, transport, and handling of these components and to establish their proper disposal pathway once they ultimately reach the end of their useful life. A new digitizer, the HPM7177, which is a fundamental component of the signal chain for high precision measurement of particle accelerator magnet currents, is presented. It was designed to meet the unprecedented performance requirements for new 14 kA and 18 kA power converters (PCs) for the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) project at CERN, particularly in terms of low-frequency noise and stability. The use of superconducting composite cables based on Nb3Sn, an intermetallic compound of Niobium and Tin, is one of the favorite routes to reach magnetic fields higher than 10 T in state-of-the-art accelerator magnets. The brittle and nonlinear nature of the epoxy-impregnated Nb3Sn Rutherford cable makes challenging to predict its mechanical limits and, consequently, the overall performance of the magnet. [...]

The cold powering test of the first two MQXFB prototype quadrupoles, the Nb$_3$Sn inner triplet magnets to be installed in the HL-LHC, has found performance limitations.
