A methodology for the analysis of the three-dimensional mechanical behavior of a Nb$_3$Sn superconducting accelerator magnet during a quench / Ferradas Troitino, J (CERN ; Geneva U.) ; Bajas, H (CERN) ; Bianchi, L (CERN) ; Castaldo, B (CERN) ; Ferracin, P (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Guinchard, M (CERN) ; Izquierdo, S (CERN) ; Lorenzo, J V (Barcelona Supercomputing Ctr.) ; Mangiarotti, F (CERN) ; Perez, J C (CERN) et al.
The fast thermal and electromagnetic transients that occur in a superconducting magnet in case of a quench have the potential of generating large mechanical stresses both in the superconducting coils and in the magnet structure. While the investigation of such quench loads should generally be conducted to ensure a safe operation of the system, its importance is greatly enlarged in the case of high-field magnets based on strain sensitive superconductors. Fiber Bragg Grating Sensors as Innovative Monitoring Tool for Beam Induced RF Heating on LHC Beam Pipe / Fienga, Francesco (Naples U. ; INFN, Italy ; CERN) ; Marrazzo, Vincenzo Romano (Naples U.) ; Spedding, Sara Bennett (Naples U.) ; Szillasi, Zoltan (Debrecen, Inst. Nucl. Res. ; CERN) ; Beni, Noemi (Debrecen, Inst. Nucl. Res. ; CERN) ; Irace, Andrea (Naples U.) ; Zeuner, Wolfram (CERN) ; Ball, Austin (CERN) ; Vaccaro, Vittorio Giorgio (Naples U.) ; Salvant, Benoit (CERN) et al.
The i-pipe system is a peculiar structural health monitoring system, based on Fiber Bragg Grating technology, installed on the central beam pipe of the compact Muon solenoid (CMS) experiment at CERN. In this contribution, i-pipe temperature sensors, originally conceived as thermal compensator for the strain sensors, are employed to monitor central beam pipe thermal behavior in correlation with the parameters of the particle beam travelling inside, in order to directly measure possible Beam RF induced heating effect. Numerical optimization of dc wire parameters for mitigation of the long range beam-beam interactions in High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider / Skoufaris, K (CERN ; Crete U. ; Unlisted, GR) ; Fartoukh, S (CERN) ; Papaphilippou, Y (CERN) ; Poyet, A (CERN) ; Rossi, A (CERN) ; Sterbini, G (CERN) ; Kaltchev, D (TRIUMF)
Several configurations of the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider, whose performance at collision is mainly limited due to the strong beam-beam long-range interactions, are studied in the presence of dc wire compensators. This analysis is based on analytical and numerical calculations where the main observables are the dynamic aperture (correlated to the beam lifetime) and the frequency map analysis. [...]

Kalman filter-based longitudinal phase-space reconstruction method for hadron machines / Alves, Diogo (CERN) ; Lasocha, Kacper (CERN)

Performance and luminosity models for heavy-ion operation at the CERN Large Hadron Collider / Bruce, R. (CERN) ; Jebramcik, M.A. (CERN ; DESY) ; Jowett, J.M. (CERN ; Darmstadt, GSI) ; Mertens, T. (Helmholtz-Zentrum, Berlin) ; Schaumann, M. (CERN)
A good understanding of the luminosity performance in a collider, as well as reliable tools to analyse, predict, and optimise the performance, are of great importance for the successful planning and execution of future runs. In this article, we present two different models for the evolution of the beam parameters and the luminosity in heavy-ion colliders. [...]

In the framework of the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) project, larger and shielded beam screens will be installed in the beam pipe of the superconducting magnets of the insertion next to the ATLAS and CMS detectors. The beam screen is a complex assembly that guarantees the vacuum requirements while shielding the magnet cold mass from the induced heat loads. [...]
