A new detector capable of measuring the luminosity and beam conditions of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is proposed at the interaction point of the LHCb experiment. It will enable real time monitoring of beam parameters, which is of paramount importance in order to safely operate the LHC and its experiments in the beam conditions foreseen for Run 3, starting in 2021, and beyond, towards the High-Luminosity (HL) phase. Implementation of large-scale FPGA reconfiguration with CvP in the control system of the LHCb Experiment at CERN / Achour, Mohamed (CERN)
This report present the work done during the internship period held in the LHCb group at CERN. LHCb or Large Hadron Collider beauty, is an experiment among many others at CERN, using a large number of FPGA boards for data processing and data acquisition, making a full chip reconfiguration for all those boards may consume a lot of time and effort, so the partial reconfiguration mechanism is the privileged solution to deal with that issue, PR feature is used to dynamically reconfigure some parts in the design during FPGA runtime mode, without resetting or power cycling the whole system.
