LEIR Injection Efficiency Studies as a Function of the Beam Energy Distribution from Linac3 / Hirlaender, Simon (CERN) ; Alemany-Fernández, Reyes (CERN) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Bellodi, Giulia (CERN) ; Biancacci, Nicolo (CERN) ; Kain, Verena (CERN) ; Scrivens, Richard (CERN) High intensities in the CERN Low Energy Ion Ring (LEIR) are achieved using multi-turn injections from the pre-accelerator Linac3 combined with simultaneous stacking in momentum and transverse phase spaces. Up to seven consecutive 200 $\mu$s long, 200 ms spaced pulses are injected from Linac3 into LEIR by stacking each of them into the six-dimensional phase-space over 70 turns. Impedance and Instability Studies in LEIR with Xenon / Biancacci, Nicolo (CERN) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Gąsior, Marek (CERN) ; Hirlaender, Simon (CERN) ; Latina, A (CERN) ; Levens, Thomas (CERN) ; Migliorati, Mauro (U. Rome La Sapienza (main) ; INFN, Rome) ; Métral, Elias (CERN) In 2017, the LEIR accelerator has been operated with $Xe^{39+}$ beam for fixed target experiments in the SPS North Area. The different ion species, with respect to the standard $Pb^{34+}$, allowed for additional comparative measurements of tune shift versus intensity at injection energy both in coasting and bunched beams. Performance of the CERN Low Energy Ion Ring (LEIR) with Xenon beams / Alemany-Fernández, Reyes (CERN) ; Albright, Simon (CERN) ; Andujar, Oscar (CERN) ; Angoletta, Maria Elena (CERN) ; Axensalva, Jerome (CERN) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Baud, Guillaume (CERN) ; Biancacci, Nicolo (CERN) ; Bozzolan, Michele (CERN) ; Cettour Cave, Stephane (CERN) et al. In 2017 the CERN Low Energy Ion Ring demonstrated once more the feasibility of injecting, accumulating, cooling and accelerating a new nuclei, $^{129}$Xe${39+}$. The operation of this new ion species started at the beginning of March with the start up of the xenon ion source and the Linac3. Electron Cooling Simulation and Experimental Benchmarks at LEIR / Latina, Andrea (CERN) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Biancacci, Nicolo (CERN) ; Corsini, Roberto (CERN) ; Gamba, Davide (CERN) ; Hirlaender, Simon (CERN) ; Huschauer, Alexander (CERN) A simulation of the electron cooling has recently been implemented in the tracking code RF-Track. The implementation was based on a "hybrid kinetic" model, where the full 6-D phase space of a particle beam is immersed in a fluid plasma of electrons. Studies of the Injection and Cooling Efficiency in LEIR Using the Longitudinal Schottky Spectrum / Hirlaender, Simon (CERN) ; Alemany-Fernández, Reyes (CERN) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Biancacci, Nicolo (CERN) ; Kain, Verena (CERN) The CERN Low Energy Ion Ring (LEIR) has two main operational beams with their associated cycles, the so-called EARLY and the NOMINAL beam. The EARLY beam consists of a single injected pulse from the LINAC3 accelerator, whereas seven consecutive injections are accumulated, and electron cooled for the NOMINAL beam. Higher-Harmonic RF System for Landau Damping in the CERN PS / Damerau, Heiko (CERN) ; Lasheen, Alexandre (CERN) ; Shaposhnikova, Elena (CERN) Longitudinal coupled-bunch instabilities after transition crossing and at the flat-top limit the intensity of LHC-type beams in the CERN Proton Synchrotron (PS). A dedicated coupled-bunch feedback for dipole oscillation modes, using a Finemet cavity as wide-band longitudinal kicker, suppresses the instabilities up to an intensity of about 2·10¹¹ particles per bunch at extraction. RF Manipulations for Special LHC-Type Beams in the CERN PS / Damerau, Heiko (CERN) ; Hancock, Steven (CERN) ; Lasheen, Alexandre (CERN) ; Perrelet, Damien (CERN) Beams with special longitudinal characteristics for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) have been produced in the Proton Synchrotron (PS) and CERN. The flexibility of its RF systems consisting of in total 25 RF cavities at frequencies from 400 kHz to 200 MHz allows a variety of longitudinal beam manipulations. Improvement of the Longitudinal Beam Transfer from PS to SPS at CERN / Lasheen, Alexandre (CERN) ; Damerau, Heiko (CERN) ; Repond, Joël (CERN) ; Schwarz, Markus (CERN) ; Shaposhnikova, Elena (CERN) The beam transfer from the Proton Synchrotron (PS) to the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) at CERN is a critical process for the production of beams for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). A bunch-to-bucket transfer is performed with the main drawback that the rf frequency in the SPS (200 MHz) is five times higher than the one in the PS (40 MHz). Impedance Analysis of New PS Internal Dump Design / Popovic, Branko (CERN) ; Teofili, Lorenzo (CERN) ; Vollinger, Christine (CERN) The High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) project at CERN calls for increasing beam intensity in the injector chain. In the Proton Synchrotron (PS), a pre-injector of the LHC, these intensities can result in beam instabilities and potential RF heating of machine components, such that impedance mitigation measures are required.
