The fingerprint method for characterization of radioactive waste in hadron accelerators / Magistris, M (CERN) ; Ulrici, L (CERN)
Beam losses are responsible for material activation in most of the components of particle accelerators. The activation is caused by several nuclear processes and varies with the irradiation history and the characteristics of the material (namely chemical composition and size). [...]

Measurement and Calculation of High-Energy Neutron Spectra behind Shielding at the CERF 120 GeV/c Hadron Beam Facility / Nakao, N (SLAC, USA) ; Taniguchi, S (JASRI, Hyogo, Japan) ; Roesler, S (CERN) ; Brugger, M (CERN) ; Hagiwara, M (CYRIC, Tohoku Univ., Sendai, Japan) ; Vincke, H (SLAC, USA ; CERN) ; Khater, H (SLAC, USA) ; Prinz, A A (SLAC, USA) ; Rokni, S H (SLAC, USA) ; Kosako, K (Shimizu Corporation, Tokyo, Japan)
Neutron energy spectra were measured behind the lateral shield of the CERF (CERN-EU High Energy Reference Field) facility at CERN with a 120 GeV/c positive hadron beam (a mixture of mainly protons and pions) on a cylindrical copper target (7-cm diameter by 50-cm long). An NE213 organic liquid scintillator (12.7-cm diameter by 12.7-cm long) was located at various longitudinal positions behind shields of 80- and 160-cm thick concrete and 40-cm thick iron. [...]

Shielding data for 100-250 MeV proton accelerators : double differential neutron distributions and attenuation in concrete / Agosteo, S (Polytechnic of Milano, Milano, Italy) ; Magistris, M (CERN) ; Mereghetti, A (Polytechnic of Milano, Milano, Italy ; CERN) ; Silari, M (CERN) ; Zajacova, Z (CERN ; Slovak Univ. of Technology, Bratislava, Slovak Republic)
Double differential distributions of neutrons produced by 100, 150, 200 and 250 MeV protons stopped in a thick iron target were simulated with the FLUKA Monte Carlo code at four emission angles: forward, 45°, transverse and 135° backwards. The attenuation in ordinary concrete of the dose equivalent due to secondary neutrons, protons, photons and electrons was calculated. [...]

Dosimetry in radiation fields around high-energy proton accelerators / Agosteo, S (Milan Polytechnic ; INFN, Milan) ; Rollet, S (Seibersdorf, Reaktorzentrum) ; Silari, M (CERN) ; Theis, C (CERN)
Radiation dosimetry at high-energy proton accelerators is a difficult task because of the complexity of the stray radiation field. A good knowledge of this mixed radiation field is very important to be able to select the type of detectors (active and/or passive) to be employed for routine area monitoring and to choose the personal dosimeter legally required for estimating the effective dose received by individuals. Comparison of 2-D Magnetic Designs of Selected Coil Configurations for the Next European Dipole (NED) / Toral, F (CIEMAT, Madrid, Spain) ; Devred, Arnaud (Saclay ; CERN) ; Felice, H (Saclay) ; Fessia, Paolo (CERN) ; Loveridge, P W (RAL, Abingdon, England) ; Regis, Federico (CERN) ; Rochford, J (RAL, Abingdon, England) ; Sanz, S (CIEMAT, Madrid, Spain) ; Schwerg, Nikolai (CERN) ; Védrine, P (Saclay) et al.
The Next European Dipole (NED) activity is developing a high-performance Nb$_{3}$Sn wire (aiming at a non-copper critical current density of 1500 A/mm2 at 4.2 K and 15 T), within the framework of the Coordinated Accelerator Research in Europe (CARE) project. This activity is expected to lead to the fabrication of a large aperture, high field dipole magnet. [...]

Radiological considerations on multi-MW targets Part I : Induced radioactivity / Agosteo, S (Politecnico di Milano, Italy) ; Magistris, M (CERN) ; Silari, M
CERN is designing a Superconducting Proton Linac (SPL) to provide a 2.2GeV, 4MW proton beam to feed facilities like, for example, a future Neutrino Factory or a Neutrino SuperBeam. The material activation in such facilities is an important aspect that has to be taken into account at an early design stage. [...]

CERN is designing a Superconducting Proton Linac (SPL) to provide a 2.2GeV, 4MW proton beam to feed facilities like, for example, a future Neutrino Factory or a Neutrino SuperBeam. One of the most promising target candidates is a stationary consisting of a Ti container filled with small Ta pellets. [...]
