Plasma wakefield acceleration experiments at FACET II / Joshi, C (UCLA) ; Adli, E (Oslo U.) ; An, W (UCLA) ; Clayton, C E (UCLA) ; Corde, S (Palaiseau, Lab. Opt. During the past two decades of research, the ultra-relativistic beam-driven plasma wakefield accelerator (PWFA) concept has achieved many significant milestones. These include the demonstration of ultra-high gradient acceleration of electrons over meter-scale plasma accelerator structures, efficient acceleration of a narrow energy spread electron bunch at high-gradients, positron acceleration using wakes in uniform plasmas and in hollow plasma channels, and demonstrating that highly nonlinear wakes in the 'blow-out regime' have the electric field structure necessary for preserving the emittance of the accelerating bunch. First Physics Results of AWAKE, a Plasma Wakefield Acceleration Experiment at CERN / Muggli, Patric (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Caldwell, Allen Christopher (Dresden, Max Planck Inst.) /Awake
AWAKE is a plasma wakefield acceleration experiment using the 12cm-long, 400GeV proton bunch of the CERN SPS. In order to reach an acceleration gradient in the GeV/m range, the plasma electron density is 7$\times$10$^{14}$cm$^{-3}$. [...]

Batch compression to 50 ns spacing at PS flat-top / Damerau, H (CERN)
The bunch spacing in the injector chain has a direct impact on the total number of bunches in the LHC and hence on its integrated luminosity. The baseline scheme for lead ion beams within the LHC Injector Upgrade (LIU) project fore- sees the transfer of multiple batches of four bunches spaced by 100 ns from the PS to the SPS. [...]

3D Tracking Methods in a GEANT4 Environment Through Electrostatic Beamlines / Hunt, James (U. Liverpool (main) ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Resta-López, Javier (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; U. Liverpool (main)) ; Rodin, Volodymyr (U. Liverpool (main) ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Veglia, Bianca (U. Liverpool (main) ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Due to the relatively infrequent use of electrostatic beamline elements compared with their magnetic counterparts, there are few particle tracking codes which allow for the straightforward implementation of such beamlines. In this contribution, we present 3D tracking methods for beamlines containing electrostatic elements utilising a modified version of the Geant4 based tracking code 'G4beamline'. [...]

Ultraenergetic Heavy-Ion Beams in the CERN Accelerator Complex for Radiation Effects Testing / Alía, Rubén García (CERN) ; Fernández Martínez, Pablo (CERN) ; Kastriotou, Maria (CERN) ; Brugger, Markus (CERN) ; Bernhard, Johannes (CERN) ; Cecchetto, Matteo (CERN) ; Cerutti, Francesco (CERN) ; Charitonidis, Nikolaos (CERN) ; Danzeca, Salvatore (CERN) ; Gatignon, Lau (CERN) et al.
Traditional heavy-ion testing for single-event effects is carried out in cyclotron facilities with energies around 10 MeV/n. Despite their capability of providing a broad range of linear energy transfer (LET) values, the main limitations are related to the need of testing in a vacuum and with the sensitive region of the components accessible to the low range ions. Beam Dynamics Studies Through Dielectric THz Accelerating Structures / Apsimon, Robert (Lancaster U. (main)) ; Appleby, Robert (U. Manchester (main)) ; Burt, Graeme (Lancaster U. As conventional RF accelerating schemes approach the physical limit of accelerating gradient, the accelerator community is increasingly looking at novel accelerating techniques to overcome these limitations. Moving from the RF to the THz frequency range, higher acceleration gradients of high energy beams can be achieved in compact structures. [...]

High Frequency RFQ Design and LEBT Matching for the CERN TwinEBIS Ion Source / Bencini, Vittorio (CERN) ; Breitenfeldt, Martin (CERN) ; Lallement, Jean-Baptiste (CERN) ; Lombardi, Alessandra (CERN) ; Pahl, Hannes (CERN) ; Pikin, Alexander (CERN) ; Pitters, Johanna (CERN) ; Wenander, Fredrik (CERN)
An Electron Beam Ion Source (EBIS) is being developed at CERN for production of highly charged ions, for instance fully stripped $^{12}$C. The focus has so far been on the electron gun design, aiming for a high current compression, which results in a rapid ionisation process and thereby high repetition rate. [...]

Studies of Horizontal Instabilities in the CERN SPS / Beck, Mario (CERN ; Rostock U.) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Carlà, Michele (CERN) ; Li, Kevin (CERN) ; Rumolo, Giovanni (CERN) ; Schenk, Michael (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; van Rienen, Ursula (Rostock U.)
In the framework of the LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU), beams with double intensity with respect to the present values will have to be successfully accelerated by the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) and extracted towards the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). However, first experience running with intensity higher than the nominal LHC beam has shown that coherent instabilities in the horizontal plane may develop, becoming a potential intensity limitation for the future high intensity operation.
