The East Area at the Proton Synchrotron is one of CERN’s longest running facilities for experiments, beam tests, and irradiations with a successful history of over 55 years. The facility serves more than 20 user teams for about 200 days of running each year and offers mixed secondary hadron, electron and muon beams of 0.5 GeV/c to 10 GeV/c. [...]

Performance of crystal scintillators in a severe radiation environment caused by protons / Yang, Fan (Caltech, Pasadena (main)) ; Zhang, Liyuan (Caltech, Pasadena (main)) ; Zhu, Ren-Yuan (Caltech, Pasadena (main)) ; Kapustinsky, Jon (Los Alamos) ; Nelson, Ron (Los Alamos) ; Wang, Zhehui (Los Alamos)
Future high energy physics experiments at the energy and intensity frontiers will face challenges from a severe radiation environment caused by both ionization dose and charged and neutral hadrons. This paper reports an investigation on proton induced radiation damage in various crystal scintillators. [...]

The future circular collider (FCC) is foreseen as the next-generation ~100-km long synchrotron to be built in the Geneva area starting 2050. This machine is expected to reach an energy level of 100 TeV generating unprecedented radiation levels >100 times higher than in today’s large hadron collider (LHC). [...]

IRRAD: The New 24GeV/c Proton Irradiation Facility at CERN / Gkotse, Blerina (CERN) ; Glaser, Maurice (CERN) ; Moll, Michael (CERN) ; Ravotti, Federico (CERN)
The proton and mixed-field irradiation facilities at the CERN PS East Area (known as IRRAD1 and IRRAD2), have been heavily exploited for irradiation of particle detectors, electronic components and materials since 1992. With the increasing demand of irradiation experiments, and in view of the High-Luminosity upgrade of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC), these facilities suffered of a number of unpleasant restrictions such as the space availability, the maximum achievable particle flux and several access constraints. A New High-intensity Proton Irradiation Facility at the CERN PS East Area / Gkotse, B (CERN) ; Glaser, M (CERN) ; Lima, P (CERN) ; Matli, E (CERN) ; Moll, M (CERN) ; Ravotti, F (CERN)
The proton and mixed-field irradiation facilities in the CERN PS East Area (known as IRRAD1 and IRRAD2), were heavily and successfully used for irradiation of particle detectors, electronic components and materials since 1992. These facilities operated with particle bursts - protons with momentum of 24GeV/c - delivered from the PS accelerator in “spills” of about 400ms (slow extraction). [...]
