IT Services Availability during the Annual CERN Closure 2006

Most of the physics, technical, administrative and communications services provided by the IT Department, including LCG (EGEE) production services, will remain available during the CERN annual closure (although EDH requests will stay queued). No interruptions are scheduled (beyond PABX maintenance work on 3-5 January 2007) but restoration of services in case of failure cannot be guaranteed. Problems which arise should be addressed within about half a day except around Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (24 and 25 December) and New Year's Eve and New Year's Day (31 December and 1 January). Incidents will be documented at http://cern.ch/ssb.

Although the backup service will be operational, backups cannot be guaranteed and file restores will not be possible. Damaged tapes in Castor will not be processed.

Please note that the Helpdesk will be closed but an operator service will be maintained throughout and can be reached at extension 75011 or by email to computer.operations@cern.ch where urgent problems may be addressed.

Please remember to shut down and switch off any equipment in your office which is not foreseen to be used during the annual closure.
