Eat well and be active
From Monday 25 to Friday 29 May, CERN’s Medical Service, in collaboration with the Restaurant Supervisory Committee, is organising a positive and original awareness-building campaign aimed at encouraging you to counter the risks of becoming overweight and tackling the problem of sedentary lifestyles.
The campaign is supported by the Management, the Staff Association,UNIQA, and the three restaurants on the CERN site.
Annual statistics show a worrying upward trend in the BMI (Body Mass Index), even here at CERN, mainly due to a lack of daily physical activity. If the BMI exceeds 25 kg·m-2, it can become a risk factor for serious cardiovascular, endocrine and neurological disorders and for potentially life-threatening conditions.
During the awareness week, the three restaurants will be handing out specially-designed table mats, providing useful information on the meals on offer and simple tips on healthy eating and keeping fit; any questions you may have on these topics will be answered at a stand set up by the Medical Service.
Simple things in daily life, like taking the stairs instead of the lift, can make a big difference.
Your health is your greatest asset, so look after it!
