Abstract	We present a measurement of the prompt muon component in collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV. The analysis is based on a total integrated luminosity of approximately 17 nb$^{−1}$. In the central rapidity region (|$\eta$| < 1.8), the measured fraction of prompt muons ranges from about 30% for pT values of 4 GeV up to 70% for pT > 10 GeV. For |$\eta$| > 1.8, the fraction ranges from 50% to 90% in the pT window mentioned above.
