Abstract We summarize the status and plans for the future for the CERN NA63 collaboration. As concerns the status, a first measurement of the structured target 'resonance' appearing from radiation emission by electrons passing two amorphous foils positioned with separations in the range $10-5000~mu$m was performed in september 2011. Preliminary results indicate that by this method, the formation length - of macroscopic dimensions up to 1 mm - for the generation of MeV-GeV radiation from multi-hundred GeV electrons can be emph{directly} measured. In the same run, an attempt was done to measure the magnetic suppression of bremsstrahlung from electrons passing an iron foil exposed to a strong magnetic field. It turns out, both judging from the experimental results and from calculations, that this effect is unlikely to be measurable for amorphous targets in fields less than about 100 T. For 2012 we propose two measurements. In the first, we wish to do a measurement of the efficiency of production for positrons originating from electrons impinging on a diamond crystal. Furthermore, the production angles and energies can be measured by means of so-called MIMOSA detectors. Such a study will be of relevance to the injector-end of CLIC, since diamond is one of the few materials expected to be able to withstand the heat- and radiation-load of a MW production target. In the second measurement, we propose to investigate the radiation emission (photons and delta-electrons) from fully stripped ultrarelativistic nuclei. This was also proposed for 2011, but could not be performed due to the lack of debunching of the beam in the SPS. Both spectra of the emitted particles ($gamma,delta-$e$^-$) are expected to show clear 'resonance' structures arising from the finite size of the penetrating nucleus.
