| Abstract | A statistical approach to the uncertainty reduction of a vibrating-wire system for the measurement of magnetic axes in accelerator magnets is presented. A surface response methodology is employed to relate metrological performance to system design parameters by means of a suitable model based on analysis of means. The model is identified by means of experiment design based on an orthogonal array and its significance is verified by analysis of variance. The impact of each design parameter on the metrological performance is assessed and useful indications are derived for future improvement. Validation experiments are carried out on a permanent quadrupole magnet for the Compact Linear Collider at the European Organization for Nuclear Research. |
