Abstract The SHiP-charm experiment aims at measuring the charm production cross-section of 400 GeV protons, provided by the CERN SPS, hitting a thick, SHiP-like target. In particular, the secondary (cascade) production of charm shall be measured in order to provide a solid input for the sensitivity studies for the SHiP experiment. A first optimisation run has been performed in Summer 2018 employing a heavy, moving target with nuclear emulsion films immediately followed by a silicon pixel tracker, in front of the magnet and further detectors behind. The purpose is to validate the measurement feasibility, develop the required analysis tools and fine tune the detector layout. In this note, the track reconstruction in the pixel tracker and the track matching with the moving emulsion detector are presented. The pixel detector performed as expected and, after proper alignment, it is shown that a track matching rate of more than 60$\% $ is achievable.
