Abstract The ATLAS Pixel Detector has been in operation since the first collisions in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in 2008. During a long shutdown of the LHC from 2013 until early 2015, an additional, novel innermost layer was inserted into the Pixel detector. In this configuration, the Pixel detector has been in operation ever since, with no access or upgrade to the pixel modules. The performance of this system will be presented, outlining the challenges encountered during the most recent years of running under more harsh LHC conditions, i.e. long periods of pile-up levelling and a higher mean pile-up.
