The LEP detectors / Callot, O ; Charpentier, P
This article describes the four detectors which took data at LEP from 1989 to 2000. After a review of the design requirements and of the various answers, a more detailed description is given of some of the important detector components. [...]

The number of neutrinos and the Z line shape / Blondel, A (Faculte des Sci)
Thanks to a precise calibration and monitoring of the LEP beam energy the Z resonance line shape has been precisely measured, hence permitting accurate determinations of the Z mass and width. A large effort was spent on experiments for the measurement of the LEP luminosity, enabling the number of neutrino types to be precisely determined. [...]

Search for Higgs bosons at LEP2 and hadron colliders / Trefzger, T M (Sekt Phys)
The search for the Higgs boson was one of the most relevant issues of the final years of LEP running at high energies. An excess of 3 sigma beyond the background expectation has been found, consistent with the production of the Higgs boson with a mass near 115 GeV/c/sup 2/. [...]

Eleven Years of QCD at LEP / Bethke, Siegfried (Max Planck Institute of Physics, Munich, germany)
Studies of hadronic final states of $e^+e^-$ annihilations, observed at the Large Electron Positron Collider LEP at CERN, are reviewed. The topics included cover measurements of $\alpha_s$, hadronic event shapes and hadronisation studies, tests of asymptotic freedom and of the non-Abelian gauge structure of QCD, differences between quark and gluon jets, tests of power corrections and selected results of two-photon scattering processes. [...]

Search for Higgs bosons at LEP / Rivero, C M (CERN)
Searches for the standard model Higgs and SUSY Higgses have been performed in the data collected by the four LEP experiments ALEPH, DELPHI, L3 and OPAL in the year 2000 at a centre-of-mass energies between 200 and 209 GeV corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of around 220 pb/sup -1/ per experiment. An excess of data above background predictions indicates a possible production of a Higgs boson with mass in the vicinity of 115 GeV/c/sup 2/. [...]

LEP : the end of an era / Tovey, Stuart N (Res Centre for High Energy Phys)
The Large Electron Positron Collider (LEP) at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN) near Geneva was built primarily to study the Z/sup 0/, one of the three carriers of the Weak Force. The other two are the W/sup +or-/. [...]

Measurement of the cross-section of single W boson production and the anomalous couplings in the L3 experiment / Yang Min ; Chen Guo Ming ; Yang Hai Jun ; Xiong Zhao Hua ; Lü Yu Sheng ; Chen He Sheng
In this paper, the cross-sections of single W boson production in e /sup +/e/sup -/ to e/sup -/ nu /sub e/W/sup +/ and e/sup +/e/sup -/ to e/sup +/ nu /sub e/W/sup -/ were measured based on the data samples collected by the L3 detector in 1996 and 1997. The limits on the anomalous couplings of the WW gamma triple gauge bosons are derived at 95% CL:-0.65< Delta kappa /sub gamma /<0.82 and -1.37< lambda /sub gamma /<0.92. [...]

Search for TeV strings and new phenomena in Bhabha scattering at CERN LEP2 / Bourilkov, D (Inst for Particle Phys, Eidgenössische Tech Hochschule, Zürich)
A combined analysis of the data on Bhabha scattering at center-of- mass energies 183 and 189 GeV from the CERN LEP experiments ALEPH, L3, and OPAL is performed to search for effects of TeV strings in quantum gravity models with large extra dimensions. No statistically significant deviations from the standard model expectations are observed and a lower limit on the string scale M/sub S/=0.631 TeV at 95% confidence level is derived. [...]

Charmonium resonance formation in $\gamma\gamma$ collisions with the L3 detector / Blyth, S C (CERN)
Measurements of the two-photon partial widths of the charmonium mesons chi /sub c2/ and eta /sub c/ from data collected by the L3 detector are presented. The data comprises 140 pb/sup -1/ at square root (s) approximately=91 GeV and 52 pb/sup -1/ at square root (s) approximately=183 GeV. [...]
