The FastRICH ASIC for next-generation RICH detectors / Ballabriga, R (CERN) ; Bandi, F (CERN) ; Bergamin, G (CERN) ; Bialas, W (CERN) ; Campbell, M (CERN) ; Ceresa, D (CERN) ; D'Ambrosio, C (CERN) ; Gascon, D (ICC, Barcelona U.) ; Gomez, S (Barcelona, Polytechnic U.) ; Kaplon, J (CERN) et al.
A novel ASIC, called the FastRICH, was designed and produced for the front-end electronics of single-photon detectors in future RICH detectors. Owing to the prompt Cherenkov radiation and precise optical arrangement of RICH detectors, the Cherenkov photon time-of-arrival can be used to improve the particle identification performance. [...]

Silica aerogel, because of its tunable refractive index (n = 1.008–1.13) and its good optical quality in the visible light range, is considered an excellent Cherenkov radiator for RICH detectors. At INFN Bari unit, hydrophobic aerogel tiles are being optically characterized using an Agilent Cary 4000 spectrophotometer to measure transmittance and reflectance. [...]

Large area picosecond photodetector for the Upgrade II of the LHCb RICH / Foulds-Holt, Daniel (Edinburgh U.) /LHCb RICH Collaboration
As a component of LHCb Upgrade II, the two Ring-Imaging Cherenkov (RICH) detectors in LHCb will undergo a photodetector upgrade during LHC Long Shutdown 4 (LS4), replacing the multi-anode photomultiplier tubes (MaPMTs) currently installed with a new technology capable of providing time resolved photon detection. A candidate technology for this upgrade is that of microchannel plate photomultipliers. [...]

Designing the ALICE 3 bRICH detector: Simulation studies and beam test results / Nicassio, N (INFN, Bari ; Bari Polytechnic ; CERN) ; Congedo, L (INFN, Bari) ; De Robertis, G (INFN, Bari) ; Di Bari, D (INFN, Bari ; Bari Polytechnic) ; Di Mauro, A (CERN) ; Durini Romero, D (INAOE, Puebla) ; Giliberti, M (INFN, Bari) ; Kiss, T (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Licciulli, F (INFN, Bari) ; Liguori, A (INFN, Bari ; Bari Polytechnic) et al.
The ALICE Collaboration is proposing a completely new apparatus, ALICE 3, for the LHC Run 5. The design target of the ALICE 3 charged particle identification (PID) system is to ensure a better than 3σe/π, π/K and K/p separation for momenta up to 2 GeV/c, 10 GeV/c and 16 GeV/c, respectively. [...]

A cryogenic RICH detector demonstrator for SiPM operation with flex-PCB readout / Frei, C (CERN) ; Keizer, F (CERN) ; Malentacca, L (CERN ; Milan Bicocca U.) ; Vilella, A Murillo (CERN) ; Piedigrossi, D (CERN) ; Wertelaers, P (CERN)
Silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) arrays are strong photodetector candidates for future RICH detectors owing to their excellent single-photon detection efficiency, time resolution and fine granularity. The main challenge in operating SiPM arrays is the dark-count rate (DCR), especially after irradiation damage. [...]

The LS3 Enhancement of the RICH detectors / Placinta, V M (Bucharest, IFIN-HH) /LHCb RICH Collaboration
The LHCb RICH readout electronic chain will undergo an upgrade during the LS3 Enhancements program to achieve fast timing for detected Cherenkov photons. The main component of the new readout architecture is a novel front-end application specific integrated circuit (ASIC), namely FastRICH, that was designed according to the LHCb RICH specifications. The FastRICH ASIC for the LHCb RICH enhancements / Keizer, F (CERN) /LHCb RICH Collaboration
The Ring-Imaging Cherenkov (RICH) detectors at LHCb have an excellent intrinsic time resolution due to the prompt Cherenkov radiation and focusing mirror optics. Novel RICH readout electronics, to be installed during the third Long Shutdown period (LS3) of the LHC, will introduce fast-timing information in the LHCb experiment. [...]
