Aerogel characterization for RICH applications
/ Altamura, A R (INFN, Bari) ; Mauro, A Di (CERN) ; Nappi, E (INFN, Bari) ; Nicassio, N (U. Bari (main) ; INFN, Bari) ; van Emmerik, M (Maastricht U.) ; Volpe, G (U. Bari (main) ; INFN, Bari)
In this paper, the optical parameters of recently produced hydrophobic silica aerogel tiles with various refractive indeces will be presented. Each tile has been characterized at different positions in terms of transmittance, scattering, absorption and transmission lengths. [...]

The FastRICH ASIC for next-generation RICH detectors
/ Ballabriga, R (CERN) ; Bandi, F (CERN) ; Bergamin, G (CERN) ; Bialas, W (CERN) ; Campbell, M (CERN) ; Ceresa, D (CERN) ; D'Ambrosio, C (CERN) ; Gascon, D (ICC, Barcelona U.) ; Gomez, S (Barcelona, Polytechnic U.) ; Kaplon, J (CERN) et al.
A novel ASIC, called the FastRICH, was designed and produced for the front-end electronics of single-photon detectors in future RICH detectors. Owing to the prompt Cherenkov radiation and precise optical arrangement of RICH detectors, the Cherenkov photon time-of-arrival can be used to improve the particle identification performance. [...]

Aerogel characterization for RICH applications
/ Liotino, Rocco (Bari Polytechnic ; INFN, Bari) ; Nappi, Eugenio (INFN, Bari) ; Nicassio, Nicola (Bari Polytechnic ; INFN, Bari ; CERN) ; Volpe, Giacomo (Bari Polytechnic ; INFN, Bari)
Silica aerogel, because of its tunable refractive index (n = 1.008–1.13) and its good optical quality in the visible light range, is considered an excellent Cherenkov radiator for RICH detectors. At INFN Bari unit, hydrophobic aerogel tiles are being optically characterized using an Agilent Cary 4000 spectrophotometer to measure transmittance and reflectance. [...]

Designing the ALICE 3 bRICH detector: Simulation studies and beam test results
/ Nicassio, N (INFN, Bari ; Bari Polytechnic ; CERN) ; Congedo, L (INFN, Bari) ; De Robertis, G (INFN, Bari) ; Di Bari, D (INFN, Bari ; Bari Polytechnic) ; Di Mauro, A (CERN) ; Durini Romero, D (INAOE, Puebla) ; Giliberti, M (INFN, Bari) ; Kiss, T (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Licciulli, F (INFN, Bari) ; Liguori, A (INFN, Bari ; Bari Polytechnic) et al.
The ALICE Collaboration is proposing a completely new apparatus, ALICE 3, for the LHC Run 5. The design target of the ALICE 3 charged particle identification (PID) system is to ensure a better than 3σe/π, π/K and K/p separation for momenta up to 2 GeV/c, 10 GeV/c and 16 GeV/c, respectively. [...]

A cryogenic RICH detector demonstrator for SiPM operation with flex-PCB readout
/ Frei, C (CERN) ; Keizer, F (CERN) ; Malentacca, L (CERN ; Milan Bicocca U.) ; Vilella, A Murillo (CERN) ; Piedigrossi, D (CERN) ; Wertelaers, P (CERN)
Silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) arrays are strong photodetector candidates for future RICH detectors owing to their excellent single-photon detection efficiency, time resolution and fine granularity. The main challenge in operating SiPM arrays is the dark-count rate (DCR), especially after irradiation damage. [...]
