  <abstract>Inclusive charged hadron production, $ m{e}^{+} m{e}^{-} ightarrow m{e}^{+} m{e}^{-}$ h$^{pm}$ X, is studied using 414 pb$^{-1}$ of data collected at LEP with the L3 detector at centre-of-mass energies between 189 and 202 GeV. Single particle inclusive differential cross sections are measured as a function of the particle transverse momentum, $p_t$, and pseudo-rapidity, $eta$. For $ p_t le 1.5$ GeV, the data are well described by an exponential, typical of soft hadronic processes. For higher $p_t$, the onset of perturbative QCD processes is observed. The $pi^{pm}$ production cross section for $p_t &gt; 5$ GeV is much higher than the NLO QCD predictions.</abstract>

  <abstract>The three different helicity states of W bosons produced in the reaction e+ e- -&gt; W+ W- -&gt; l nu q q~ at LEP are studied using leptonic and hadronic W decays. Data at centre-of-mass energies \sqrt s = 183-209 GeV are used to measure the polarisation of W bosons, and its dependence on the W boson production angle. The fraction of longitudinally polarised W bosons is measured to be 0.218 \pm 0.027 \pm 0.016 where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic, in agreement with the Standard Model expectation.</abstract>

  <abstract>The cross section of the process $\rm e^+e^-\rightarrow Ze^+e^-$ is measured with ~0.7\,fb$^{-1}$ of data collected with the L3 detector at LEP. Decays of the Z boson into quarks and muons are considered at centre-of-mass energies ranging from $183$ GeV up to $209$ GeV. The measurements are found to agree with Standard Model predictions, achieving a precision of about 10\% for the hadronic channel.</abstract>

  <abstract>A heavy target, nicknamed STAC, was used together with the NA2 large spectrometer for the study of muon-nucleon scattering by the European Muon Collaboration (EMC). It was built at DESY, and there tested in an electron beam, then in an SPS hadron beam in the West Hall. It consists of 26 iron/scintillator sandwich elements to measure the energy which the 280 GeV primary muon looses during its interaction in the target. and tested in an electron beam</abstract>

For many years, Germany, Switzerland and China have been involved in numerous areas of scientific research and cooperation.</abstract>

  <abstract>These images were taken at the CMS experimental cavern during Long Shutdown 1, installing pinhole cameras at different points of the cavern and exposing them for days. The development of the film was done by Donato di Ferdinando from INFN Bologna. A pinhole camera is a light-tight box where a small hole is made (diameter of the order of microns); a light-sensitive material is set in the back of the hole. As sensitive material a nuclear emulsion film from the OPERA experiment was used. It is a special photographic emulsion optimized (silver grains enriched) for the detection of charged particles. A very large amount of nuclear emulsions where used in Opera experiment, at the Gran Sasso Underground Labs; nuclear emulsions must detect the charged tau-leptons emerging from the interaction between the "oscillated" tau-neutrino coming from the pure muon-neutrino beam produced at CERN (the CNGS beam). The oscillations theory of neutrino expects that muon neutrinos oscillate to tau-neutrinos and due to this behavior neutrinos have a small mass, not as occurred in the Standard Model (in which neutrinos have zero mass). The target mass was composed of 150.000 bricks, technically called Emulsion Cloud Chamber (ECC). Each brick was composed of 57 nuclear emulsions (like the ones used for this pictures) interleaved with 56 lead plates, 1mm thick, with the same area of the emulsions. The brick was sealed to avoid light leaks. Each brick weighted 8.3 kg and the dimensions were 12.5 cm x 10.5 cm x 7.5 cm. The ECC in this way satisfies the requirements of high mass (the lead, to maximize the probability of the neutrino interaction) but overall the emulsion give us precision of micrometers in the measurements of the tracks and precision of 1-2 millirad in the measurements of angles of the tracks left on it by charged particles (decay products of the neutrinos).</abstract>

  <abstract>Beamline for Schools (BL4S) is a physics competition for high school students from all around the world organised by CERN, the European Laboratory for Particle Physics, in Geneva, Switzerland, and DESY, the German Electron Synchrotron, in Hamburg, Germany. The competition was originally launched in 2014 by CERN. The fruitful collaboration between CERN and DESY started in 2019 during a long shutdown period of the CERN accelerators and thus they celebrated here their 5th anniversary.</abstract>

  <abstract>The high granularity calorimeter (HGCAL) will be an entirely new sub-detector of the CMS experiment in the High Luminosity period. At DESY parts of its modules are going to be built, which have to pass rigorous tests. Using the DESY II test beam facilities, CMS scientists are able to replicate the conditions of the CMS detector by using a beam of high-energy electrons. This allows for precise measurement and validation of the modules' responses, ensuring they meet the rigorous standards required for the experiment. Crucial to this process is the use of specialized readout electronics based on ASICs (Application-Specific Integrated Circuits) and FPGAs (Field-Programmable Gate Arrays), to collect and process data at incredibly high speeds, all within a 25-nanosecond window.</abstract>

  <abstract>As part of the upgrades of CMS detector for High-Luminosity LHC, the development of the new silicon modules for the CMS Outer Tracker (OT) aims to deliver higher granularity, lower mass and provide higher data rates as well as local track segments (stubs) at 40 MHz. Two module types (2S and PS) will be used in the Outer Tracker. Two TEDDs are being built, one for each side of the Tracker, in preparation for Hi-Lumi LHC. Each TEDD will have five double disks. Each of the disks for tracker endcaps is made up of two half-disks, or “Dees”. Two disks together, separated by only about 2cm, form a double disk.</abstract>

  <abstract>Oliver Brüning is a German accelerator physicist who took up the role of CERN Director for Accelerators and Technology in January 2026. He earned his PhD from the University of Hamburg in 1994, following postdoctoral work at DESY on HERA proton beam stability, and took up a CERN fellowship in 1995. He joined CERN as a staff member in 1997, contributing to LHC optics, commissioning and upgrades. From 2008, he served as LHeC Study Leader and held several leadership roles in beam physics. From 2015 to 2019, he led the LHC Full Energy Exploitation Study, and from 2020 to 2025, he headed the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) Upgrade project. Brüning has served on several international committees, including as Chair of the DESY Machine Advisory Committee (2017–2020) and Chair of the EPS Accelerator Group (2008–2011).</abstract>
