High RF Power Production for CLIC / Syratchev, I (CERN) ; Schulte, D (CERN) ; Adli, E (CERN) ; Taborelli, M (CERN)
The CLIC Power Extraction and Transfer Structure (PETS) is a passive microwave device in which bunches of the drive beam interact with the impedance of the periodically loaded waveguide and excite preferentially the synchronous mode. The RF power produced (several hundred MW) is collected at the downstream end of the structure by means of the Power Extractor and delivered to the main linac structure [...]

The CLIC Test Facility 3 (CTF3) has the objective to demonstrate the remaining feasibility issues of the CLIC two-beam technology for a future multi-TeV linear collider. One key issue is the efficient generation of a very high current 'drive beam' that serves as the power source for the acceleration of the main beam to high energy. [...]

CERN envisages replacing the existing Proton Synchrotron (PS) with a larger synchrotron (PS2) capable of injecting at higher energy into the SPS. Since it should increase the performance not only of the LHC but also CNGS and other users of beams from CERN's hadron injector complex, the new accelerator must retain much of the flexibility of the present complex. Following the first observation of a fast vertical instability for a single high-brightness bunch at injection in the SPS in 2002, a series of detailed measurements and simulations has been performed in order to assess the resulting potential intensity limitations for the SPS, as well as possible cures. During the 2006 run, the characteristics of this instability were studied further, extending the intensity range of the measurements, and comparing the experimental data with simulations that take into account the latest measurements of the transverse machine impedance. Modeling Incoherent Electron Cloud Effects / Benedetto, E ; Fischer, W ; Franchetti, G ; Rumolo, G ; Ohmi, K ; Pivi, M ; Raubenheimer, T O ; Schulte, D ; Sonnad, K ; Tomás, R et al.
Incoherent electron effects could seriously limit the beam lifetime in proton or ion storage rings, such as LHC, SPS, or RHIC, or blow up the vertical emittance of positron beams, e.g., at the B factories or in linear-collider damping rings. Different approaches to modeling these effects each have their own merits and drawbacks. [...]
