Prospects for the measurement of $B_s$ oscillations with the ATLAS detector at LHC ; 2002 ed. / Epp, B (Innsbruck U.) ; Ghete, V M (Innsbruck U.) ; Nairz, A (Innsbruck U.)
The capabilities of the ATLAS detector to measure the ${s}^{0}$ oscillations in proton-proton interactions at the Large Hadron Collider were evaluated. $B_{s}^{0}$ candidates in the $D_{s}^{-} \pi^{+}$ and D_{s}^{-} a_{1}^{+}$ decay modes from semileptonic exclusive events were fully simulated and reconstructed, using a detailed detector description. A Study of the Lorentz Structure in $\tau$ Decays / DELPHI Collaboration
This paper describes a measurement of the Michel parameters, $\eta$, $\rho$, $\xi$, $\xi \delta$, and the average $\nu_{\tau}$helicity, $h_{\nu_{\tau}}$, in $\tau$ lepton decays together withthe first measurement of the tensor coupling in the weak charged current.The $\tau^{+} \tau^{-}$ pairs were produced at the LEP $\mathrm{e^{+} e^{-}}$collider at CERN from 1992 through 1995 in the DELPHI detector.Assuming lepton universality in the decays of the $\tau$ the measured valuesof the parameters were:$\eta = -0.005 \pm 0.036 \pm 0.037$,$\rho = 0.775 \pm 0.023 \pm 0.020$,$\xi = 0.929 \pm 0.070 \pm 0.030$,$\xi\delta = 0.779 \pm 0.070 \pm 0.028$, $h_{\nu_{\tau}} = -0.997 \pm 0.027 \pm 0.011$.The strength of the tensor coupling was measured to be $\kappa^W_\tau = -0.029\pm 0.036 \pm 0.018$. The first error is statistical and the second erroris systematic in all cases.The results are consistent with the $V\!-\!A$ structure of the weak chargedcurrent in decays of the $\tau$ lepton..

Charged and Identified Particles in the Hadronic Decay of W Bosons and in $e^{+}e^{-} \to q\overline{q}$ from 130 to 200 GeV / DELPHI Collaboration
Inclusive distributions of charged particles in hadronic Wdecays are experimentally investigated using the statisticscollected by the DELPHI experiment at LEP during 1997, 1998and 1999, at centre-of-mass energies from 183 to around 200 GeV.The possible effects of interconnection betweenthe hadronic decays of two Ws are not observed.Measurements of the average multiplicity for charged and identified particles in q$\bar{\mathrm q}$ and WW events at centre-of-mass energies from 130 to 200 GeV and in W decays are presented. The results on the average multiplicity of identified particlesand on the position $\xi^*$ of the maximum of the maximum of$\xi_p = -\mathrm{log} (\frac{2p}{\sqrt{s}})$distribution are compared with predictionsof JETSET and MLLA calculations..

The modification takes the form of an additional surface resistance proportional to the density of the fluxon lattice and increasing linearly with the amplitude of the microwave above a threshold significantly lower than the field emission threshold. This system can simulate the deterministic and stochastic parts of those imperfections. [...]

Recent results on the development of radiation-hard diamond detectors / RD42 Collaboration
Charged particle detectors made from chemical vapor deposition (CVD) diamond have radiation hardness greatly exceeding that of silicon- based detectors. The CERN-based RD42 Collaboration has developed and tested CVD diamond microstrip and pixel detectors with an eye to their application in the intense radiation environment near the interaction region of hadron colliders. Development of CVD diamond radiation detectors / RD42 Collaboration
Diamond is a nearly ideal material for detecting ionizing radiation. Its outstanding radiation hardness, fast charge collection and low leakage current allow a diamond detector to be used in high ra diation, high temperature and in aggressive chemical media. [...]

Recent results on adaptive track and multitrack fitting / Frühwirth, R ; Strandlie, A ; Todorov, T ; Winkler, M
Track reconstruction in the LHC environment is characterized by a high background of noise and low-momentum tracks. Adaptive algorithms are able to suppress automatically noise hits and are therefore prime candidates for track fitting at the LHC. [...]

Luminosity optimisation by adjusting LHC beta* at collision / Wittmer, W
To correct the beta * at the main collision points (IP1 and IP5) simultaneously for the two counterrotating proton beams in the LHC a set of specific quadrupoles in the non-common part of the machine is used. Due to the antisymmetric optics, several quadrupoles on each side of the insertion have to be used. [...]
