The overall branching fractions are measured to be: $BR(b -> D^0 \ell^- \bar{\nu}_{\ell} X) = (7.04 +/- 0.34 (stat) +/- 0.36 (syst.exp) +/- 0.17 (BR_D))\%,$ $BR(b -> D^+ \ell^- \bar{\nu}_{\ell} X) = (2.72 +/- 0.19 (stat) +/- 0.16 (syst.exp) +/- 0.18 (BR_D))\%$, $BR(b -> D^{*+} \ell^- \bar{\nu}_{\ell} X) = (2.75 +/- 0.17 (stat) +/- 0.13 (syst.exp) +/- 0.09 (BR_D))\%$ where the $D^0$ and $D^+$ results include also contributions from $D^{*0}$ and $D^{*+}$ decays..

A Study of the Lorentz Structure in $\tau$ Decays
/ DELPHI Collaboration
This paper describes a measurement of the Michel parameters, $\eta$, $\rho$, $\xi$, $\xi \delta$, and the average $\nu_{\tau}$helicity, $h_{\nu_{\tau}}$, in $\tau$ lepton decays together withthe first measurement of the tensor coupling in the weak charged current.The $\tau^{+} \tau^{-}$ pairs were produced at the LEP $\mathrm{e^{+} e^{-}}$collider at CERN from 1992 through 1995 in the DELPHI detector.Assuming lepton universality in the decays of the $\tau$ the measured valuesof the parameters were:$\eta = -0.005 \pm 0.036 \pm 0.037$,$\rho = 0.775 \pm 0.023 \pm 0.020$,$\xi = 0.929 \pm 0.070 \pm 0.030$,$\xi\delta = 0.779 \pm 0.070 \pm 0.028$, $h_{\nu_{\tau}} = -0.997 \pm 0.027 \pm 0.011$.The strength of the tensor coupling was measured to be $\kappa^W_\tau = -0.029\pm 0.036 \pm 0.018$. The first error is statistical and the second erroris systematic in all cases.The results are consistent with the $V\!-\!A$ structure of the weak chargedcurrent in decays of the $\tau$ lepton..

Charged and Identified Particles in the Hadronic Decay of W Bosons and in $e^{+}e^{-} \to q\overline{q}$ from 130 to 200 GeV
/ DELPHI Collaboration
Inclusive distributions of charged particles in hadronic Wdecays are experimentally investigated using the statisticscollected by the DELPHI experiment at LEP during 1997, 1998and 1999, at centre-of-mass energies from 183 to around 200 GeV.The possible effects of interconnection betweenthe hadronic decays of two Ws are not observed.Measurements of the average multiplicity for charged and identified particles in q$\bar{\mathrm q}$ and WW events at centre-of-mass energies from 130 to 200 GeV and in W decays are presented.The results on the average multiplicity of identified particlesand on the position $\xi^*$ of the maximum of the maximum of$\xi_p = -\mathrm{log} (\frac{2p}{\sqrt{s}})$distribution are compared with predictionsof JETSET and MLLA calculations..

Photon Events with Missing Energy at $\sqrt{s}$= 183 to 189 GeV
/ DELPHI Collaboration
The production of single photons has been studiedin the reaction e+e- --> gamma+ invisible particles at centre-of-mass energies of 183~GeV and 189~GeV.A previously published analysis of events with multi-photonfinal states accompanied by missing energy has been updated with 189 GeV data.The data were collected with the DELPHI detector and correspondto integrated luminosities of about 51~pb^{-1}and 158~pb^{-1}at thetwo energies.The number of light neutrino families is measured to be2.86\pm0.13(stat)\pm0.14(syst)$. The absence ofan excess of events beyond that expected from Standard Modelprocesses is used to set limits on new physicsas described by supersymmetric and composite models.A limit on the gravitational scale is also determined..

An update of the searches for charginos and gravitinodon a data sample corresponding to the 158 pb$^{-1}$ rIdetector in 1998, at a centre-of-mass energy of 18asignal was found. The lower mass limits are 4-5 GeV/$eobtained at a centre-of-mass energy of 183 GeV.The ($\mu$,M$_2$) MSSM domain excludedby combining the chargino searches with neutralino sea$resonance implies a limit on the mass ofthe lightest neutralino which, for a heavy sneutrino,e above 31.4 GeV/$c^2$ for $\tan{\beta}\geq$ 1..

A precise measurement of the $\tau$ polarisation at LEP-1
/ DELPHI collaboration
The $\tau$ polarisation has been studied with the $\eett$ data collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP in 1993, 1994 and 1995 around the $\Z$ resonance firstly through the exclusive decay channels $\mbox{\rm e}\nu\bar{\nu}$, $\mu\nu\bar{\nu}$, $\pi\nu$, $\rho\nu$ and $\aone\nu$ and secondly with an inclusive hadronic analysis which benefits from a higher efficiency and a better systematic precision. The results have been combined with those previously published on 1990 to 1992 DELPHI data, to produce results which reflect the full LEP-1 statistics. [...]

Superconducting niobium cavities, a case for the film technology
/ Arbet-Engels, V P ; Benvenuti, Cristoforo ; Calatroni, Sergio ; Darriulat, Pierre ; Peck, M A ; Valente, A M ; Van't Hof, C A
Evidence is presented for niobium film cavities performing as well as niobium bulk cavities, at variance with a widespread belief that their much smaller grain size should be a fundamental limitation preventing high quality factors to be maintained over a wide range of accelerating fields. By comparing the relative merits of the bulk and film technologies, a strong case is presented in favour of the latter. [...]

When investigating the quality of a magnetic measurement system, one observes difficulties to identify the "trouble maker" of such a system as different effects can yield similar influences on the measurement results.We describe a tool in this paper that allows to investigate numerically the effects produced by different imperfections of components of such a system, including, but not limited to vibration and movements of the rotating coil, influence of electrical noise on the system, angular encoder imperfections. This system can simulate the deterministic and stochastic parts of those imperfections. [...]
