The ATLAS Trigger requires high efficiency and selectivity in order to keep the full physics potential of the experiment and to reject uninteresting processes from the 40 MHz event production rate of the LHC. These goals are achieved with a trigger composed of three sequential levels of increasing accuracy that have to reduce the output event rate down to ~ 100 Hz. [...]

Given the extremely high output rate foreseen at LHC and the general-purpose nature of ATLAS experiment, an efficient and flexible way to select events in the High Level Trigger is needed. An extremely flexible solution is proposed that allows for early rejection of unwanted events and an easily configurable way to choose algorithms and to specify the criteria for trigger decisions [...]

At LHC the 40 MHz bunch crossing rate dictates a high selectivity of the ATLAS Trigger system, which has to keep the full physics potential of the experiment in spite of a limited storage capability. The level-1 trigger, implemented in a custom hardware, will reduce the initial rate to 75 kHz and is followed by the software based level-2 and Event Filter, usually referred as High Level Triggers (HLT), which further reduce the rate to about 100 Hz. Prototype of an SMP based sub-farm of the ATLAS event filter / Negri, A ; Polesello, G ; Scannicchio, D A ; Stanescu, C ; Vercesi, V
The Event Filter system in the ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is required to implement the final on-line event selection in the Data Acquisition system on a processor farm. The Symmetric Multi Processor (SMP) implementation of the Event Filter is attractive because it offers advantages in data sharing and transfer between the different hardware and software components. Performance of the ATLAS Detector using First Collision Data / ATLAS Collaboration
More than half a million minimum-bias events of LHC collision data were collected by the ATLAS experiment in December 2009 at centre-of-mass energies of 0.9 TeV and 2.36 TeV. This paper reports on studies of the initial performance of the ATLAS detector from these data. [...]
