The ALICE Transition Radiation Detector: status and perspectives for Run II / Klein, Jochen (CERN) /ALICE
The ALICE Transition Radiation Detector contributes to the tracking, particle identification, and triggering capabilities of the experiment. It is composed of six layers of multi-wire proportional chambers, each of which is preceded by a radiator and a Xe/CO 2-filled drift volume. [...]

The ALICE PID performance in Run 1 and perspectives in view of Run 2 / Noferini, Francesco (INFN, Bologna ; Enrico Fermi Ctr., Rome) /ALICE
The extended capability in particle identification (PID) is one of the most characterizing features of the ALICE experiment. Several PID techniques are exploited in ALICE to cover a wide range of momenta based on specific energy loss (ITS, TPC), transition radiation (TRD), time of flight (TOF), Cherenkov radiation (HMPID), calorimetry (PHOS, EMCAL) measurements and topological PID. In Run 1 we explored extensively the combination of these techniques to improve particle separation in a statistical Bayesian approach or in a more traditional Nσ cut approach. [...]

Nuclei and Anti-Nuclei Production in Heavy Ion Collisions / Puccio, Maximiliano (INFN, Turin ; Turin U.) /ALICE
The high integrated luminosity and the unprecedented collision energies provided by the Large Hadron Collider open the possibility to study extensively the production of light (anti-)nuclei, hypernuclei and exotic states in proton- proton (pp), proton-lead (p-Pb) and in particular in lead-lead (Pb-Pb) collisions. The transverse momentum spectra and the production yields of light nuclei and anti-nuclei are presented. [...]

Hadronic resonance production with ALICE at the LHC / Kiselev, Sergey (Moscow, ITEP) /ALICE
Recent results on short-lived hadronic resonances obtained by the ALICE experiment in pp, p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC energies are presented. Transverse momentum spectra, yields, ratios to long-lived particles and nuclear modification factors are discussed. [...]

ALICE potential for heavy-flavour physics / Bruno, Giuseppe Eugenio (INFN, Bari) /ALICE
The ALICE experiment, currently in the commissioning phase, will study nucleus–nucleus and proton–proton collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We review the ALICE heavy-flavour physics program and present a selection of results on the expected performance..

Anisotropic flow of charged and identified particles in Pb–Pb collisions at √ s NN = 5.02 TeV with ALICE / Margutti, Jacopo (NIKHEF, Amsterdam ; Utrecht U.) /ALICE
Anisotropic flow, i.e. azimuthal anisotropies in particle production, is a key observable to characterise the properties of the Quark–Gluon Plasma (QGP), as it is sensitive to both its transport coefficients and equation of state. [...]

Multiplicity dependence of identified particle production in PP collisions with ALICE / Nayak, Kishora (NISER, Jatni) /ALICE
On behalf of the ALICE Collaboration A comprehensive measurement of the multiplicity dependence of identified particle production in proton-proton (pp) collisions is important for the understanding of small and large colliding systems. The transverse momentum (pT) dependence of particle ratios and the integrated yield ratio of various particles such as π, K, K 0 S , K * 0 , p, Λ, Ξ, Ω in pp collisions at 7 TeV are reported. [...]

Qualification of the ALICE SAMPA ASIC With a High-Speed Continuous DAQ System / Tambave, Ganesh (Bergen U.) ; Velure, Arild (Bergen U.) /ALICE
During the Long Shutdown 2 of CERN's Large Hadron Collider, foreseen to start in 2019, the ALICE experiment will upgrade its time projection chamber (TPC) detector to cope with a Pb-Pb collision rate of 50 kHz in the next running phase. In the upgraded TPC, the gas electron multiplier (GEM) technology and continuous readout will replace the existing multiwire proportional chambers and triggered readout system. [...]

Design and Test of a GBTX-Based Board for the Upgrade of the ALICE TOF Readout Electronics / Falchieri, D (INFN, Bologna) ; Antonioli, P (INFN, Bologna) ; Baldanza, C (INFN, Bologna) ; Giorgi, F M (INFN, Bologna ; U. Bologna, DIFA) ; Mati, A (CAEN, Viareggio) ; Tintori, C (CAEN, Viareggio)
In order to cope with the increased luminosity that the European Organization for Nuclear Research large hadron collider accelerator will provide after Long Shutdown 2 (2019- 2020), the a large ion collider experiment (ALICE) Time-Of-Flight (TOF) readout board data readout module is currently being redesigned. As a first step toward the final design, a test board hosting a Microsemi Igloo2 field-programmable gate array (FPGA), the radiation-hard Application-Specified Integrated Circuit (ASIC) gigabit transceiver ASIC (GBTX), and the optical transceiver versatile link transceiver (VTRX) has been designed and extensively tested.
