 Study of $B^{0} \rightarrow D^{*-}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+}$ and $B^{0} \rightarrow D^{*-}K^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+}$ decays / LHCb Collaboration Using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at $\sqrt{s} =$ 7 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb$^{-1}$, the ratio of branching fractions of the $B^{0}\rightarrow D^{*-}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+}$ decay relative to the $B^{0} \rightarrow D^{*-}\pi^{+}$ decay is measured to be \begin{equation*} \frac{\mathcal{B}(B^{0}\rightarrow D^{*-}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+})}{\mathcal{B}(B^{0} \rightarrow D^{*-}\pi^{+})} = 2.64 \pm 0.04\,(\text{stat.}) \pm 0.13\,(\text{syst.})\, . \label{eq:CF_BF_ratio_result} \end{equation*} The Cabibbo-suppressed decay $B^{0}\rightarrow D^{*-}K^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+}$ is observed for the first time and the measured ratio of branching fractions is \begin{equation*} \frac{\mathcal{B}(B^{0}\rightarrow D^{*-}K^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+})}{\mathcal{B}(B^{0} \rightarrow D^{*-}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+})} = (6.47 \pm 0.37\,(\text{stat.}) \pm 0.35\,(\text{syst.})) \times 10^{-2} \label{eq:CS_BF_ratio_result}\, . Studies of pear-shaped nuclei using accelerated radioactive beams / Gaffney, L P (Liverpool U.) ; Butler, P A (Liverpool U.) ; Scheck, M (Liverpool U. ; Darmstadt, Tech. Hochsch.) ; Hayes, A B (Rochester U.) ; Wenander, F (CERN) ; Albers, M (Cologne U.) ; Bastin, B (GANIL) ; Bauer, C (Darmstadt, Tech. Hochsch.) ; Blazhev, A (Cologne U.) ; Bonig, S (Darmstadt, Tech. Hochsch.) et al. There is strong circumstantial evidence that certain heavy, unstable atomic nuclei are ‘octupole deformed’, that is, distorted into a pear shape. This contrasts with the more prevalent rugby-ball shape of nuclei with reflection-symmetric, quadrupole deformations. [...] 2013 - Published in : Nature 497 (2013) 199-204

Description and first application of a new technique to measure the gravitational mass of antihydrogen / The ALPHA Collaboration Physicists have long wondered whether the gravitational interactions between matter and antimatter might be different from those between matter and itself. Although there are many indirect indications that no such differences exist and that the weak equivalence principle holds, there have been no direct, free-fall style, experimental tests of gravity on antimatter. Measurement of the effective $B_s^0\rightarrow J/\psi K_{\mathrm S}^0$ lifetime / LHCb Collaboration This paper reports the first measurement of the effective $B_s^0\rightarrow J/\psi K_{\mathrm S}^0$ lifetime and an updated measurement of its time-integrated branching fraction. Both measurements are performed with a data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $1.0\:\text{fb}^{-1}$ of $pp$ collisions, recorded by the LHCb experiment in 2011 at a centre-of-mass energy of $7\:\text{TeV}$. The 47 years of muon g-2 / Farley, F J M (Yale U., New Haven) ; Semertzidis, Y K (Brookhaven) After a brief introduction to the theory of the muon anomalous moment a≡(g−2)/2, all the experimental measurements of this quantity are reviewed in some detail. This includes the CERN cyclotron experiment, the first muon storage rings at CERN, the Berkeley experiment, the invention of the “magic energy” and the latest measurement with the third muon storage ring at Brookhaven.
